Helping U out with Time Management Tools

Where does all the time go! Check out our new poll and vote on the tool you use! I can't stand it went I can't get all the things I need to get done. I had to learn that tomorrow is another day and prioritize what is important and urgent and the rest would follow. But that wasn't enough I need a tool to help me achieve this after various trials and errors. I finally realized less is more, for me any way. A simple pen and paper used on a home made large and I mean large like presentation size, lol calendar. It works for me not only do I allocate what needs to be done on what day but the time I need to spend doing it. No matter what tool you use for your time management items the idea is to try it for at least a month and get used to using it. That's right USE IT. The more you use it the more it becomes habit for you they say you have to do something at least 18-20 times before it becomes a habit. If you have a tool that you use to help with your time management items let us know about it you may just help another member(s). LET"S GET ORGANIZED!!! Carla:) --

Speaking of time management...how much time do you spend in eBay groups daily? What about your social networking sites? --

Deb, My schedule has been all out of whack these last two months for one reason or another. I do know what my goal is though and hopefully I will be able to stick with it now that things are beginning to take on a slower pace. Msleo, I have been known to throw things away that I find I need at a later date but I have never thrown myself away and I highly recommend that you do not throw yourself in there either. The time in the trash can can't be any fun but even worse would be the trip through the trash truck. Ouch....!!!!....!!!! ;-)

Re: Helping U out with Time Management Tools

I always enjoy reading about tips for organization and time management. I actually did a series of articles for a WAH (Work At Home) site, partially on these topics. I saw some of you talking about 'piling' things and I thought maybe you would enjoy this article I wrote on the subject of clutter: Are You Stuffy? Yes, you read it right – are you stuffy? I don’t mean stuffy as in congestion … is your home stuffy? How about your work area? Can you tell where your ‘stuff’ ends and your work space begins? Our ‘stuff’ – those stacks of paper, piles of books, bundles of pens – can all add up to CLUTTER if left unattended. All too often clutter is the result of “for-now-itis” – as in, “I’ll just put this here FOR NOW.” Unfortunately, wherever that place is, typically ends up being a long term resolution rather than a short term solution! The negative and residual consequence of allowing a stuffy condition to exist in your work space is that your ability to function efficiently is restricted. It’s as if the clutter around you encroaches on your thought processes, in the same manner that stacks of paper or piles of books often tip over and interrupt whatever activity may be in progress. Rather than resolve or decide that you will just leave the mess where it landed – you must take the proactive step of picking up and organizing your stuff to give you a clear work space again. This time, however, you should make a firm decision to find a solution to the problem of stuffiness and clutter. Many adages come to mind – such as having “a place for everything, and everything in its place” – and they do highlight important principles that, if followed, not only improve life in general, but also create a more efficient and well-organized overall work environment. If you are familiar with the condition known as claustrophobia (abnormal fear of being in closed or narrow spaces), perhaps it wouldn’t be too much of a leap to coin the term ‘clutter phobia’ – except in this case, we should all WANT to have this particular ‘phobia’ – it might serve as a powerful motivator to conquer stuffiness and clutter once and for all. At the very least, clutter phobia may provide the plan of action we need to finally admit that we usually have TOO MUCH STUFF! -- K'Lee (kleekreates)~Maine

Re: Helping U out with Time Management Tools

Hi girls! I'm back! Well sorta, back from family reunion & vacation anyway. But still have GD til the end of the week so I'm not doing any listings until after she leaves. Mostly just doing some deep cleaning and organizing around here. Getting back into my routine. I have a new strategy. I swipe everything off my desk and onto the floor. Whatever lands on the top of the pile gets first priority! Haha 😄 Ms Leo I like that one! That's how I feel some days but then after I've done that I have another mess to clean up :_| .. another chore Yuck!! I think I buried my fairy friends somewhere cuz they sure aren't coming out at night and fixing up my office anymore! Sandie, indeed the Fly sheets are a good idea. I had to go back and read that again. So you have a set list of things typed on it that you do everyday? Care to elaborate what they are? You'd be surprised how much time you waste just getting stuff done that should be 2nd nature and what I forget then have to go back and do. I have a morning, afternoon, evening, and bedtime routine - there's also a basic weekly plan, weekly home blessing, and zone cleaning pages. For any one that has never "flown" these will sound strange I know - go check out flylady dot com she has everything there to help you get started. What I did is just decide what I wanted accomplished in each of the areas, typed them up, printed them on different color paper and laminated them. As I complete a task I use my trusty dry erase marker to check off the items as I complete them. Everything gets done, or was getting done, in a quick timely manner - no more forgetting to eat, forgetting to take vitamins, not making the bed til noon, actually getting dressed rather than staying in p.j.'s all day etc. because it's all right there. The idea is to get in a routine and make a habit of doing what you have to do. Part of my routine & habit is using my fly sheets. My family says I'm anal but I love being able to see exactly what all I accomplished and how I spent my day. At the end of the day I just wipe off my sheets and they're ready for the next day. And now that I'm back to using my fly sheets I feel such a sense of accomplishment again. Oh, and I do include ME time and activities on those sheets as well! Dee I could use that trash truck here!!! :^O -- www.sandiestreasures.com - Home Decor and Gift Items, Therapeutic Magnetic Jewelry, Avon

Re: Helping U out with Time Management Tools

Not sure how I keep missing posts, but I did and glad I caught them. Tammie and D.. no, I'd never actually throw myself in a trash can or truck. It'd break the truck. I am NOT fragile! I am ferocious and dangerous! (right??) Toss other people? The thought HAS crossed my mind.. um.. too many times! K'Lee.. nice article. Indeed.. I'm a stuffy clutterbug with "for-now-itis". Now you all know! I know there is a cure.. FIRE comes to mind! Sandie.. thanks SO much for elaborating on the Fly Sheets. That website is pretty amazing and perfect for this thread http://flylady.com. Getting on a schedule sounds intimidating, but "seems" necessary. Can you tell I'm already fighting it? I too forget the simple things like eating, sleeping, changing out of pj's etc. But I can see that finding a routine again WILL be a great start! If I had to limit my work to 8 hours a day, then I'd have to get more done in that time period, right? I hope. ME time.. now THAT is funny, almost as funny as days off! Thanks again and keep posting. I need a support group! MsLeo --
