tracking uploaded late defect

sold an item in an auction. Buyer won and paid. Then asked me to hold the item because he was bidding on another item and wanted to combine shipping. I said ok, and then eBay charged me with an uploading tracking late defect. I called and the (expletive) on the other end told me I need to follow ebay policies on uploading tracking on time, and he would not remove the defect!!! THIS MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL.

Why? that is what we all agreed to when we signed up on eBay. In this case you should have told buyer that per eBay policy, you have to provide tracking on a timely matter otherwise you will get hit with a defect.

You allowed this to happen.

I'm sorry 'this makes no sense' to you but we are all held to the same policies. You are the person who decides what your handling time will be in advance, it is not chosen for you. If you selected one day than that is your timeline, set by you. Use this as a lesson for how to respond the next time. Best of luck to you....

when a buyer is going to purchase a few things at auction a few days apart its imperative that they not pay for them till they are done bidding.

its very easy to invoice for all auctions that are unpaid

If it's any consolation, 1 late shipping ding isn't going to hurt your account.

I have the same problem.  The buyer was bidding on multiple items but the auction end dates were spread apart and the buyer asked if I would "Hold off" on shipping until all the auctions were completed.  I agreed.  The buyer also wanted to pay for everything at one time so items were in the "Awaiting Payment" for a couple of days but were canceled by eBay after 3 or 4 days.  We got that straightened out but now there are multiple paid-for but awaiting shipping label items.  The buyer did not finish the purchase for almost 3 weeks but I finally got the order shipped and the buyer received the package and gave positive feedback.  I got dinged for a late tracking defect and tried to dispute it and eBay said no, it stays.  This was by buyer's request and I had no way of knowing what they were bidding on to change the handling time (plus you cannot make adjustments to bid on items) and looked everywhere in the seller's hub for help and could find nothing.  So I'm about to be downrated and still have no answers. I don't want to change the handling time on my listings because I do want buyers to know I have a quick paid-to-shipped handling time with the exception of the RARE BUYER REQUESTED shipping holds for extended shopping time and multiple auctions.  How do we solve that so we don't get penalized for catering to the buyers?

Although there are some TRS benefits a seller might lose by not shipping quickly, there are a couple of suggestions I can make that are perfectly okay with ebay.

1. Extend your handling time to the longest you're willing to wait between multiple purchases. (@mybellastarr, there's no way I'd wait 3 weeks!) If a buyer only buys one item and pays immediately, there's nothing stopping you from same day, 1-day or 2-day shipping but you've given yourself the option of holding off shipping when necessary.)

2. Set your non-payment cancellation to manual so ebay won't close it after just 4 days if you're willing to wait longer.  This way, if a buyer hasn't paid (as promised) after the last listing ends, you can cancel 4 days after the last one ended.

I saw all the replies above but I could swear that one of the Ebay contacts here said not too long ago that the ding could be waived if Customer Service was shown the late shipment request being made by the buyer in messages.

Yea, That I used when I chat with a customer service I told them someone is buying multi items and they looked at our conversation and removed the late shipment defect while chatting.

If anyone comes across this thread, DO NOT hold packages even though the buyer asks; you will get a defect and eBay won’t remove it. I talked to multiple CS, and the first two couldn’t even locate where the late shipment defect was. The last one finally found it but told me they have no way of removing those. When I said “so then if a buyer asks to hold a package, tell them I can’t? Doesn’t seem like good business” she stated “no, you can hold onto it, if that’s what your business wants to do”…

…is it eBay? Is it my business? Can I do what my business needs to do to make customers happy? Then doesn’t it make sense to NOT COUNT THE LATE SHIPMENT AGAINST MY ACCOUNT?!?

I’m convinced eBay executives are former spoil rich kids who were given their jobs to them without any qualifications.
