(This is not "eBay", but rather a peer-to-peer message board).

Without more information, it could be difficult to give you exact information ... but, I'll try to cover two common issues:

Item Not Properly Described -  If the seller advertised the water filters to fit your refrigerator, but they do not, then this is an "Item Not Described" situation, and the money back guarantee is in effect.  Thus, the seller must pay for the return shipping.    Since you are in the USA, the seller would need to provide you with a USA return label (not a China Post return label).

  • China sellers will typically not provide a label.
  • If they want the product back, then you need to determine the price of tracked shipping to China by going over to the USPS site and getting a quote ... only the more expensive options provide tracking.
  • You then send a note to your seller stating that (a) they must provide a USA international shipping label, and not a China label; (b) the cost for the label is $$$; and, (c) they need to send money for this label to your PayPal account for you to purchase the label and return the product.
  • In the vast majority of cases, the China seller will either not respond or try to distract you (just keep repeating the same request and don't fall for the distractions).  If the money doesn't appear in your PayPal account after 2 business days, escalate the return with eBay noting that the seller will not accommodate a USA-originated return shipping label for a Money Back Guarantee claim.   eBay will force the refund of your original purchase price.

Return Address is Substantially Different than the Origin Address - This is likely not your situation, but I mention it just in case.  If you are the one who made the mistake in the purchase ... that is, the seller didn't advertise the filter as fitting your refrigerator model, and you just want to refund the money.   Assuming the seller has a return policy, you purchased the item from a USA Address, and the seller is requiring the return to a prohibitively expensive China address, then this violates eBay's Item Location Policy:

  • Send a message to the seller stating that if an item is purchased from a USA address, then the seller must provide a USA-based return address.
  • If the seller will not accommodate the return with a domestic address after 2 business days, you will need to call up eBay and get their assistance.   I seem to recall that what happens next is that eBay will contact the seller to emphasize that they must provide a USA-based return address ... another 3-5 day wait ... and if still no response, eBay then closes the return with a refund.

Hope that helps.
