problem buyer

hi i am new to ebay and posted and sold my first item a couple weeks ago. the buyer didnt pay so after reading all the policies and procedures i opened a non payment. he then paid. every day for the next week i messaged him to inform him step by step how everything was going, i printed packing slip, mailed it, tracked it, and when it arrived at his home i sent him message. he never once communicated with me. then he messaged ebay saying he did not receive item. my money was put on hold i proved he did and money was released. that next morning he messaged ebay saying the item was defective. and started a return, i immediately messaged him he never answered. they put hold on funds again. he lied about not receiving item and in the same day said it was defective. he wont message me. and i feel like ebey is pressuring me to return his money which ive never had. can someone guide me as to what i should do. he obviously is not being truthful and im being punished. thank you

i was trying to figure out how to send everyone who responded the same message, so hopefully theyll see this, thank you all for your help. i am just now writing because it finally is over. after the buyer said he didnt receive item the money was frozen, then i proved him wrong money unfrozen then he said it was defective frozen, then i proved him wrong, unfrozen. then he claimed it was not as described, frozen. all the while as i literally almost had a meltdown ebay sent him shipping labels to return item he supposedely never received. then without my notice they paid him for item and billed me. i was left without my item without getting paid and now a bill for the amount of charges plus item. my saving grace was that i constantly filed appeals everytime he claimed something and even though ebay didnt pay me no attention. turns out they guy kept the item money and shipping label money ebay paid him, and never sent item to me. i am now in the midst of trying to get all the negative balances from ebay and paypal taken care of. and ebay has not said sorry or admitted wrong. actually the whole listing to every message has been wiped from my profile. as if it never happened. while i am an opptomistic person. this terrified me thinking how ebay works. since then i signed up with amazon and god is my witness they are amazing and clearly in control of what goes on. i will never use ebay again. it may work for some people but it didnt for me. im just grateful my livliehood doesnt depend on ebay good luck and thanks guys

Accept the return and refund after you receive your item back,so you dont get a major defect,beng a new seller that will hurt you badly, and Ebay may not allow you to list anything again..

thank you for the quick response, if this is how things work on ebay i dont think i want to continue to sell anything on here. he clearly lied about not receiving item then without admitting he lied he said it didnt work. which also is a lie. he should not be able to do this. can i call ebay myself?

I'm sorry, I'm trying to think how to tell someone what to do when they refuse to do it.  You could just wait for negative feedback-or refund the buyer, pay your fees and close your account I suppose.

thank you though i dont see how being bullied is ok anywhere, and certainly going away doesnt solve the problem. just makes the person bullying more powerful. when did we as a people care more about having a negative mark over being harrassed and bullied into something. if this is how ebay works, im glad i found out very early on. i thank you but dont think im gonna let myself be negatively tagged just to sell something.

Gosh, sorry your first experience selling her was a disaster!  I really stinks when things go badly as a seller!  I can see why you would be upset and angry!  I would be too!

 

Now that said,  learning to sell on eBay is like riding a bike!  Often one falls off and skins their knee.  So what does one do when they fall off the bike?  Quit or try again?

 

So I can see a few things that could have been done differently and would be glad to help you out - IF you are interested in learning?

Run don't walk to the exit. Yes this is how ebay works and with the NEW 14 day return policy that they will be implementing is going to make it worse. I just toke a $221 screwing from ebay. Oh and for the record I opened my account in 2003. The policies have changed in recent years not that they stand behind them when it comes to sellers. And GOD forbid if you get a refund from Fedex on a shipping screw up on there part. ebay will tell you it takes 2 billing cycles to return your money. (that at a min 2 mo. in our time. I still have some business to conduct hear but you can bet that I WILL STOP BUYING AND SELLING HEAR. The Amazon word comes to mind they at least stand behind there policys.

Riley that's your advice.  Try again maybe you won't get screw again by a buyer and ebay both. You haven't been hare very long have you?
