How to close a case when the buyer has past the time on shipping the item back?

You used to be able to close the return once the date to return the item has passed without a return, but now I think the case closes automatically after a certain number of days.  Hopefully, someone will respond who has gone through this.

I recently sent a label through a Returns Request, and the buyer had until July 2 to return the item.  That buyer asked if I had received the item yet.  I replied that no, because she had not shipped the item back.  She just now replied that she didn't know she had to enter the tracking number, and I just received a message from ebay that she shipped the item back on June 28.

That has not been my experience in the past on a return.  Once the label is scanned by the post office, then ebay displays that the item has been shipped back, and I await the arrive of the package and the Returns Request should show DELIVERED and then I refund the buyer.

If this was a case opened by buyer, they should be required to upload tracking.

eBay monitors this and should send you an e-mail if you have received item.

I had a buyer open a return and it is past the return date. I see no way to request ebay to close the return. They never intended to return it anyway from what I can tell just wanted a partial refund,

Just wait until Ebay decides to close the case.

You used to be to call and they would close the return, but not anymore.

Sellers can no longer call in to close returns ever since The Spring 2020 Seller Update.
eBay closed a case of mine today. This never had a scan.
July 10th The buyer started the return and printed the label through eBay.
July 24th was the date it should have been returned by.
July 29th was the date eBay closed the case.
So an Abandoned Return is closed by eBay on the 19th day, presently during Coronavirus Covid-19.
