cancel transaction, keep restocking fee

Hello friends,

sold an item, a watch $500, buyer paid. buyer requested fast fedex shipping, a new special leather strap... etc.. Of course I did all this for the buyer

after 3 hours, buy contacted me changed his mind ( package was not send yet ).

I do not want the watch anymore.

Buyer said: please refund me and keep $100 for all your effort

ok, refunded buyer, kept $100

Now, I want to cancel the transaction , reason " buyer contacted me, he want to cancel the transaction",  but then in the next window which pops up, it says: paypal will automatically refund the $100 as well

My questions is: how can I avoid this, and keep the $100, and cancel the transaction

please, if someone can help me

Cheers, Ralf

You can't.

eBay no longer allows restocking fees.

Your buyer is fickle. The $100 is not a restocking fee. Your buyer simply decided he now wants the full $500 back.

Of course, you could email the buyer and tell him that since you have already refunded him, there is no transaction to cancel.

I read it as the seller wants to cancel it now.

Op you can't cancel without refunding the rest.

cancel transaction, keep restocking fee

thank you all for your replies,

yup, its tricky

it seems, I can not cancel the transaction without giving him the $100 back

I mean, I did not ask for a restocking fee, buyer gave it to me, from his free will,

because, I have made some efforts to deliver the watch fast to him. ( prepard fedex package etc... )

in order to cancel the transaction, I need to give him the $100 back

(then I need to explain to him, why I refund in full and then ask him to sent me the $100 again )

it will confuse my buyer, maybe he will think, I play games wih him, and he will not sent the money

better keep my $100, but then on the other hand,  I can not cancel the transaction, and ebay will give me negative remarks for not shipping.

maybe someone can give me elegant solution for this problem.

again thank you for your replies, and help

cheers, Ralf

Don't cancel it, mark it as shipped use, that hundred dollars to pay off your final value fees and call it a day.

Sounds like a good way for the buyer to get a double refund. Since you did this outside ebay's system he can open a case for item not received and get his money back again.

You keep 100 dollars. So he gets 400 back, then opens a case for the full 500.

Perhaps someone else can comment but I don't think that you would get an out of stock defect because you did a partial refund, not a full one.

If you are TRS you would get a mark against you for not uploading the tracking number but you wouldn't get a late shipment 'ding'  unless the buyer answered the 'on time' question in feedback and said that the item arrived late. I doubt that they'll do that.

it was inside ebay, normal transaction, so no double refund

If the buyer open a dispute all the seller would have to do is enter the transaction number for the refund into the case, then call eBay and have them close it
