Anyone finding the ebay calculated shipping to be less than actual costs.  I had 2 items I cancelled because ebay charge for shipping was about $8 and actual charges were $24 and $42.  Both were in boxes but weighed less than 5 pounds.  USPS agent said it was due to the size and they calculate by bulk.

They use the greater of actual weight or dimensional weight. A large box, even if lightweight, will cost more.

Be sure to enter the box size as well as the weight.

USPS charges by "dimensional weight" if the volume of a package is over 1 cubic foot (1728 cubic inches). Also there is a surcharge of $4 for a package length over 20 inches, or $15 for length over 30 inches.

If your listing was set up with the actual package dimensions, then the buyer should have been charged for the appropriate dimensional weight and/or surcharges.

I believe it's 22 inches , not 20.

Yes, it is ; the 20 was definitely a  typo. Thanks for catching that. I should do a macro, I guess.

Just a head's up...Christmas shipping rates go up early this year...I think its October or early November for USPS. Should be interesting to see how this is done with eBay. Then rates go back down in January with USPS...but not sure what eBay does. I'll go with walking to the post office to get the correct rates this season.

the calculator can only determine costs based on actual input...

believe it or not, they do not just make up numbers.....

try it yourself....input dimensions and as soon as you cross the thresholds that have been mentioned, the usps "SURCHARGE" kicks in (not the ebay surcharge as it is so commonly called)

ebay bases it discounted rates on the USPS base prices.....

it is a computer...

it is a calculation...

2 X 2 = 4......

it is unlikely to make a mistake for one person and not the next

The "Holiday" rates last year went into effect on October 3 and expired on December 26.

This year, they go into effect on October 2 and won't expire until mid-January, probably on the same date that rates for 2023 go into effect -- in other words, no break between holiday surcharge and new rates.

eBay incorporates new USPS rates immediately on the date they go into effect, with very rare exceptions. We can expect the new prices to be reflected in listings and label purchase on Schedule on October 2.  Here are the new rates:

I have never had the calculated shipping be incorrect when I entered the correct weight AND package dimensions.
