Hi all.
I'm wondering what are ok shipping methods if I want to leave a package in my mailbox to be picked up
and I always wrap the items in plain boxes/envelops that I have , so not priority mail etc.
Thanks

United States Postal Service is about it for that. Not sure if they do pickup for non-priority, though. Some do, some don't.

I am a mail carrier. Yes we pick up all classes of package mail. HOWEVER, If you are on a city route you should do a carrier pick-up request on line. City carriers are rigidly timed. If they do not have mail for you on a walking route they do not have to go to your mailbox. Us Rural Carriers pretty much all you need is your flag up and your package ready.

You can use any box for Priority Mail. And Priority Mail is the only shipping method that makes sense for most packages that are over 1 pound.
Your carrier will pick up any package that has postage on it, IF you purchase a postage label online. If you use stamps, then the weight limit for pickup is 10 ounces.
You can pre-order Carrier Pickup if any of your packages is Priority Mail or First Class. This will ensure that the carrier stops at your house and that they know where to look for your package(s). It also lets then anticipate the total weight so they can plan ahead.

Ok so it's fine to ship in a plain box or envelop (so non-priority labeled) and use a priority mail shipping label ?
That's what I'm most unsure about. I usually re-use plain boxes/envelopes shipped to me when I buy something 😊

Yes, you can put a Priority Mail label on ANY box or envelope. The only restrictions are (1) it must have a length-plus-girth no more than 108 inches; and (2) it must not have images or writing about prohibited materials such as alcohol.

Just wanted to say thank you for all you do for so many. A very under appreciated profession, and your great advice to those that may need to call for a carrier pick-up.
Stay safe and be well,
Grandma
