Just a reminder that the mail stream is getting heavy. Ciber Monday deliveries haven't even hit yet and this was my little Post Office yesterday morning

Yikes dont know why that is sideways.  But you can see that already 2 pallets have been emptied  and are sitting to the side and two left to sort. We have a total of 7 routes in the office.

LOL Actually there was 5 pallets the Postmaster and clerk can be seen getting to the bottom of the third one.

Everyone had to take a second run to their routes yesterday I lucked out and I had 8 huge packages that were for 5 houses along one road so that was my second trip. Another sub had to wait for a LLV to get back because she had 3 packages that wouldn't go into her Grand Cherokee, so instead of dropping the last one and heading home she had to return to the PO.

I was thinking the same thing. Most of the stuff I order from Amazon is delivered by their own drivers.

I sure am glad I retired last June, I was not a letter carrier but rather a USPS bulk truck driver and rued the day when amazon got to the dock before me - which they were not allowed to do as we were guaranteed the 5am slot. I can't tell you how many times I found an amazon driver sleeping at the dock because they did not have a key or the equipment to unload - only USPS drivers (me) could activate the dock plates or open the vestibule doors. I'd knock on their truck windows for several minutes until they popped up looking like a pale white ghost thinking it was ICE from their nightmares.

Normally I'm a nice guy, in mid-year I'd help them unload a pallet or two then move in my truck, but at Xmas time all bets were off because I had 5 other post offices to deliver to and if I were late too many times I could lose my job. So I made them move, found out later they were forced to leave the Nashville FedEx depot early to make room and they had nowhere else to go.

These guys (god bless them for wanting to work) would oftentimes unload in an unsecured area before the post office even opened, leaving thousands of packages in an open unfenced area as a free for all. Now I don't speak much Spanish, mostly Cerveza or Mucho Gusto, other than that its all German to me. We mostly communicated in hieroglyphics or deaf people's dots.

Many times, boomers like me are too quick to judge - these guys who I always deem are in my way are not doing it on purpose but rather at the behest of some idiot with a pallet degree that got to go home to their hot tub at 3:30 pm.

A few times I took them across the street to Waffle House for coffee, they were as perplexed at the breakfast offerings as a newborn wearing a diaper. None that I meet knew you could flush toilet paper until I told them it was cool to do so.

Merry Christmas to all and don't forget to be nice, until its time not to be nice...

No If you could see off to the right you would see our carts that already had the USPS packages sorted to the routes. Ebay is such a small portion of what we deliver it is rather insignificant, I probably get a half dozen eBay packages for the route each day. I would say that it makes up 1% or less of the packages USPS delivers.

That makes for a long day.

We are not paid hourly but by the evaluated time for the route. My personal route is rated at 8.20 hours a day. According to evaluated time I should be loading out for the route at 9:05 am but I didn't get out until 10:30. But I still had to get back in time for dispatch with the outgoing mail and packages. I then got paid only mileage to deliver the large packages. Luckily they were all off of one main road except for one which was off the US highway on the way to the main road. Only a 13 mile run.

For the most part Amazon gets to our office 15 minutes to a half hour after our bulk truck.  LOL and its our own truck that varies on time. We get a call from the Amazon driver that tells us almost down to the minute when they will arrive.

You mean the Braille system? You might want to doublecheck what that is. Smiley Frustrated

Geesh, I can't believe I slept in until after 5am.

Yesterday started out great. Had my usual hearty breakfast of a multi vitamin, double dose of joint supplement and pot of coffee.

It went downhill from there. Hit a deer on the way to work. Jeep was still drivable but had parts hanging off and no blinker so I couldn't take it on my route. Had to turn around and return home, swap everything over to my back up 2 door Jeep Wrangler. Of course ALL the packages wouldn't fit in the little red beastie and due to my commute taking an extra hour I got a very late start. Good thing it was in the mid 30's yesterday because my blower motor quit after about an hour and Red developed an odd squeak from the wheel area while moving. Racheal our sub caught up to me after she finished Alans route and took the last 45 minutes of the route so at least I made it back before the dispatch truck.

I didn't end up going to my daughter and Son-in-laws restaurant for their ugly sweater party. It is way out at a lake, they run the marina bar and grill. I thought that it might be pressing my luck 45 minutes there and back in the middle of deer hunting season with my only working route vehicle, sold my old grey RHD Jeep Cherokee last week, figuring that having a back up for my back up was a bit of overkill.

Off topic, out of curiosity:  does your PM know that you have publicly posted a photo of the interior of your post office (including him and another employee)?

I've seen photos of the interior of post offices through the back of PO boxes and through the pickup windows.
