USPS so slow???

Hi 🙂 I'm writing as a buyer and as a seller. Almost all first class packages I ship or I wait for are delayed. Have you noticed that? Usually packages are one - two days later than expected delivery date, but I'm sick of California - buyers from CA wait sometimes a week or longer. I know it's long distance between Chicago and Los Angeles, but USPS uses air mail too, right?

Even If I ship to a buyer who lives 100 miles from me,  it takes 3 days to deliver it.

No problem with Priority Mail, but First Class Mail makes me and my customers nervous.

Re: USPS so slow???

I think it depends on where you are located.  Some regions have better service than others.

For us (in Virginia), we are located next to a major USPS hub and get great service ... 2-4 day reliable shipping to everywhere except the middle of the country (e.g., Montana, Iowa).  California is often 2-3 day delivery (both PM and FC).

Re: USPS so slow???

Yeah, I thought that only Chicago is so slow, but I'm mostly a buyer and my orders are delayed too (TX, FL). I'm just surprised because one year ago there was no problem with so many delayed packages. Every package I shipped via Frist Class was or is delayed. 50% of received packages arrived later.

Re: USPS so slow???

Usually it is two day delivery to CA for me (since I live there). Like what @orangehound said, it really matters where you live- even for priority mail. However, the different for priority mail is that less people use it so it won't be as much as a problem.

Re: USPS so slow???

USPS first class is almost as fast as priority mail for us.

As a seller, if we get it to the post office before noon it gets to our hub and onto the next hub that night.

If we have our mail carrier pick it up, it usually doesn't leave the post office till the next morning. Our mail gets delivered between 3:00 to 6:00 PM.  I do not know what time our carrier finishes the route. Our post office's last outgoing truck is about 5:00 PM. If you ask the postal clerk about the outgoing mail / trucks that will help.

Re: USPS so slow???

Priority Mail is 2-3 days, First class is 3 days. This is my experience so not much difference except one is much cheaper. Rarely do any of my packages get delivered sooner than 2 days except First class..every once in a blue moon
