USPS insuance not an option

Why is it in the new shipping page that I can no longer select USPS insurance as an option when shipping a priority mail package? The only option is for ship-serve unless I select First Class or Parcel post.

Re: USPS insuance not an option

Priority mail comes with up to $50 insurance already ($100 for TRS)

If your item costs more, the option is available.

Re: USPS insuance not an option

No need to "select" insurance for a Priorty Mail package since it's included automatically.

What type of seller buys insurance?

"What type of seller buys insurance?"

One that wants to "cya" if it is an expensive item.  I do it myself on items that sell over a certain amount. I prefer to pay a few extra dollars out of my own pocket for peace of mind rather than possibly being out several hundred dollars if I didn't. I much rather have the odds in my favor just in case. And no, I don't charge my buyers for it. I offer this service as a thank you for their business.

Actually, I saw some similar weirdness this morning when I was trying out various pricing for a high-value shipment that was going to Canada.

I was messing about with rates for First Class Package International and Priority Mail International, with or without insurance for either, and suddenly noticed that the form would no longer accept a choice for USPS Insurance. (The value I was specifying was way higher than the default $100 I get with PM shipments.) You could click on the option, and you'd see the usual pinwheeling while it recalculated, but then your total would pop in with no USPS insurance entry. The ShipCover option (off the same little 2-choice pulldown menu) still worked, but the USPS option had mysteriously died. It was there, but it wouldn't do anything.

I ended up not buying insurance anyway, and when I went back into the Shipping form just now to see if I could provoke the same malfunction again, I couldn't get it to fail this time. All I can think of is that my trying out various settings on the Shipping form this morning eventually got the form coding all confused behind the scenes, so the way to correct it, if I was desperate to get the insurance this morning, would probably have required logging out and in again or something like that.

It covers your shipment against loss or damage.

Here (below) is the USPS info page on their insurance. Clip 'n' save for your future reference, Sam:

"You can purchase insurance coverage for your mailpieces for up to $5,000 in indemnity to protect against loss or damage. Insurance fees are based on the item’s declared value. There are limitations for insuring some products and certain items. Priority Mail Express® and Priority Mail® may include insurance in the price of service."
