Many irregularities with the USPS -- the calculated shipping is charging $9 for first class to New York from Chicago---What?   Losing sales because the calculated shipping is out of wack. -- I have had shipments stuck in State facility's for a week at a time---15+ days in the system ---This all started since the ELECTION mess---They COD a customer claiming special handling charge of $23 ---Broken ceramic pot in the last month--- This is not just a minor glitch---I have not had a delivery service problem with the USPS since I restarted on Ebay a year ago until the last 3 weeks---Coincidence?

USPS calculated shipping issues

I use USPS exclusively and have received crackerjack service throughout 2020.

I can't address the COD problem or the broken item problem, but can assure you that a 15.9 oz. (the heaviest allowed) package sent First Class won't cost $9... even if you ship it using Retail rates. Check for errors when entering your information into the label page. It sounds like something is wrong there. Good luck.

If you purchase your postage online, then the weight limit for a First Class package is 15.99 ounces. But if you purchase retail postage at the PO counter, the weight limit is 13 ounces.  The shipping calculator in eBay listings is set by default to show the retail prices.  So if you enter a weight greater than 13 ounces, it will do what the PO clerk would do -- upgrade the shipping to Priority Mail.

The simple workaround is to enter a weight of 13 ounces, since the online postage cost is the same for all weights from 12+ to 15.999 ounces. Otherwise, you can go to your Site Preferences and choose to have the shipping calculator show online rates. This will apply to the calculated postage in all of your listings.

Now I know what you are talking about with the 13 oz. but that used to only apply to large envelopes not packages which has always been 1 oz or less unless this is a very recent within 1 month change.

The weight limit for retail First Class packages has been 13 ounces for the whole time I've been selling on eBay, over 15 years.

The weight limit for online First Class package postage was increased from 13 to 15.99 ounces just a few years ago (2016?), when USPS merged the Commercial Base and Commercial Plus categories for First Class packages and gave all online customers the higher weight limit that had formerly only been available to Commercial Plus customers.

Sorry to hear you're having difficulties with USPS but I have not at all. I have shipped  Lenox crystal glasses and Hummel figurines with no breakage. I only use first class myself and $9 is not possible for FC. I suspect there is an issue with how you are weighing or measuring your packages and suggest you concentrate on that area so you can get passed that. You should always weight your package after you've packed your item for shipping in order to correctly calculate what the shipping will cost the buyer. Best of luck to you....
