I sent two packages out yesterday. The first class package is showing accepted and in transit. The priority mail package says USPS awaiting package. I talked to the postmaster today, who called the shipping hub that it would go to first and they said it was scanned through that facility and had a estimated day of delivery. If it doesn't show a in transit scan tomorrow I will get a late shipping defect. Is there anything I can do? Has anybody else had this problem?

Not all tracking shows from start to finish. There may be a scan during the journey or there may not be a scan until delivery.
Have you checked the tracking on the USPS website? I find that to be more up-to-date and more accurate than is shown on the ebay transaction.

It is imperative to have your items scanned when you post them for this very reason.
Get a receipt.
Things are more wonky now and with the holidays coming be prepared for anything.
Best to you in all your future sales,

This problem is starting again... I spoke with the local USPS manager about it and he said the usual, "under staffed, nothing I can do". He admitted they are not always scanning tracking or scan forms submitted with shipping tubs. We now have to go in each day and physically deal with a clerk. Normally we have daily p/u at the shop with no issues. In a small town so generally avoid the issues the cities have. Unfortunately you now need to go in or get your postal carrier to scan (if they are able).

Yes. You need to have USPS scan each and every package.
I have recently given my mailman 20 packages. He scanned them one by one. Then they didn't scan again for 10 days.
If I just "put them in the box, don't worry they will get scanned" I would have had to give all of these buyers their money back and compeltely destroyed by eBay reputation, lost my top rated seller status and perhaps even be subject to payment holds because of all of the complaints.
It is critical that you have USPS scan each and every package.
