USPS Retail Ground?

When I listed an item I chose USPS Retail Ground as the shipping method. The item sold and now I want to pay for shipping and print a label but USPS Retail Ground isn't coming up as an option, and this is what the customer chose. I don't know of any reason this item shouldn't be able to ship Retail Ground? The package is 11x9x7 and 1 lb, 9 oz, going to zone 7. Thanks for any help!

Re: USPS Retail Ground?

There has been no announcement from eBay. The only eBay mention of this decision that I have seen is in the weekly chat that I linked to above.

Re: USPS Retail Ground?

Parcel select is still on app. You can make and purchase the label and then choose the option to email it to yourself to print

. Also can use your pending funds to pay. I have no idea if this option will disappear too.

Re: USPS Retail Ground?

As nobody's perfect has shown, Parcel Select is still available through Paypal.com/shipnow

However, the op was referring to Retail Ground so if that is what you were also referring to, that has never been availabl with Paypal or ebay shipping as it is a retail service and available only at the post office.

eBay started removing Parcel Select Ground as an option for shipping labels many months ago. According to an eBay staff member in the weekly chat, the removal is not due to a request form USPS but because eBay wanted to decrease buyer complaints about slow shipping, which is not quite the same thing.

If that was the real reason they may as well remove Media Mail as well (but they won't)

Re: USPS Retail Ground?

Great posts!

I have ran into this off and on and today it happened again!

Note: I go to post office to ship. I don't print labels.

I listed a fairly heavy item and even added weight to make sure shipping and packing material cost was covered. When listing, I selected  "calculate based on buyers location", entered the box size as 12 x 12 x 12, weight over 6 lbs., and USPS ground shipping.

Sold item. Shipping from Indiana to New York.  Shipping came up at $9.73 when I printed the order information. I was confused! That seemed really cheap for N.Y.

I went on the USPS website. Entered all the information to calculate shipping and it was more. I also noticed they did not offer a "ground rate", but eBay allowed me to select ground. ??

I decided to to see if I could  get the item in a 12 x 10 x 8 box and I did. Weight was 5.2 lbs. (lower than I entered on eBay listing.

Went to the post office and the cost was $13.30 3-day priority. No ground option! ???

I know that is only a $3.57 difference, but it does ad up quickly on seller expenses if it happens often.

Take care!

Re: USPS Retail Ground?

$9.73 is the postage cost to ship a 7-pound package to Zone 4 via Parcel Select Ground. As noted elsewhere in this thread, most sellers can no longer purchase those labels through eBay but you can through other web sites including PayPal.

$13.30 is the postage cost to ship a 6-pound package to Zone 4 via either Retail Ground or Priority Mail.  USPS policy states that Retail Ground is available to Zones 1 - 4 only for packages that MUST travel by ground, such as hazmat.

Re: USPS Retail Ground?

USPS Priority is not allowed for ORMD shipments.  They have to go ground.

Re: USPS Retail Ground?

I figured out an easy way around this issue, I just buy and print my label on paypal instead of ebay. Paypal offers a shipping discount also and provides tracking. Thanks!

Re: USPS Retail Ground?

FTR, all USPS package postage automatically includes tracking at no additional charge.  And the prices at PayPal are the same as you'd pay through eBay, endicia, stamps.com etc.: The regular published USPS Commercial rates.

That is a fact.

Thanks for adding that information to this old thread.
