Time to dump Stamps.com?

Stamps.com raised their monthly fee to $17.99

They used to be nice to use because of cheaper shipping rates.

BUT NOW, I am comparing Ebay shipping price to Stamps.com

For 1st class mailing the two are the same.

But for Priority mail exam, WA to NY 2lb: Stamps.com $10.84 and Ebay was $10.54 (0.30c cheaper)

1lb to Canada was: Stamps.com $16.47 and Ebay was $14.47 ($2 saving)

So is now the time to drop the stamps.com and their Monthly fee to the free Ebay shipping service?

I do about 20% International  shipping.

Thoughts please!

Isn't stamps.com free if you set up the account as an eBay seller for eBay sales ... or are you saying that they are ending the free program?

On eBay, a Top Rated Seller gets a 3% discount on Commercial Base rates ($10.84 in your example).  You must be a TRS, so that is why you are seeing a 3% discount to $10.54.

Try pirateship, an authorized eBay label provider. You can import your orders. They offer $100 insurance regardless of your eBay account status. You don't need a eBay account to use the service. No monthly fees. They offer cubic pricing. No extra text or graphics in your downloaded labels to crop out.

Before USPS's recent merger of the Commercial Base & Plus rates eBay was for many years charging some sellers the higher Base price while others were charged the Plus price. During this period anyone could go to pirateship and obtain Plus pricing regardless of their eBay account status, which really calls for an explanation from eBay!

Currently eBay claims that certain sellers will qualify for a 3% discount beyond the currently merged Commercial pricing rates; however, this is not always true as I've printed labels from pirateship which cost the same as eBay. In many other cases the eBay labels were cheaper by 3% or less.

From further input from outside eBay it has been suggested that eBay 3% discount is due to one of two factors:

1. eBay has received special treatment from USPS and negotiated a lower rate. The details of such deals are not available to the public. Pirateship and similar companies can also obtain their own private deals with USPS; however, such companies don't have as much economic resources to give members of Congress political contributions as eBay does. Congress has oversight over USPS. Based upon eBay's past practices (see diagram below) they certainly do not deserve any special treatment.

2. eBay is giving the 3% discount on their own and it does not represent special treatment from USPS. Can't do much about that unless it breaks USPS regulations.

Why use a 3rd  party for  labels - don't see any $$ advantage - always  use  the KISS principle.   Was  taught many  moons ago the  shortest  distance between two points is a straight line.  In interjecting a 3rd party in the  shipping process only leads to  finger pointing time when an issue  occurs - not a  good thing for certain.  eBay labels  ain't all that  hard to use - especially the "newer" new version (the previous new  version  not so  good)- easier than buying via USPS Click-N-ship IMO - heck I'm an '44 model.

Just  my 2.5 cents worth.

Pirate ship offers Priority Mail cubic pricing, which offers a significant savings for packages or padded flats smaller than 1/2 cubic foot in size and weighing less than 20 lbs.

True ... but I guess it depends on what one is selling.   Maybe 1 out of 500 of my shipments could save a few cents using cubic pricing (versus stuffing into a Padded, Regular, or Legal Flat Rate Envelope), and that isn't worth losing the 3% discount on the other 499 packages.

(I suppose one could use pirateship for packages that benefit from cubic pricing, and eBay Labels for all the other shipments ... but that's too much hassle).

I use eBay for 95% of my shipping, the TRS discount adds up.  BUT, for items in boxes 10x8x6 or smaller that weight between 1 and 4 lbs I check PirateShip and frequently can save $1-$3 on the smaller heavier items.  It only takes a couple minutes and it's easy to know which packages are worth it to check.
