If the post office sent it back on the same label, it should state return to sender in the tracking system. File an item not received case with ebay.

eBay's system IGNORES anything after the first "delivered" status. Buyer needs call CS for assistance and upload the USPS site tracking. Don't give up, call as many times as it takes.

Did the seller ship to the address you gave them? Did you forget to update your account with an address change?
If it wasn't an address you provided the seller, how did they get the address they ship the package to?
Have you contacted your seller to see what you can work out with them? Most sellers would work with you to fix the problem.

Just to add to this ... it seems that a computer makes the initial decision about whether or not the item was delivered, and it simply notices that there was a delivery to the proper zip code.
You need a human to look at the tracking, so you need to call eBay Customer Service.

Actually @dtexley3 the eBay computer is incapable of noticing that there was a delivery to the wrong zip code. See this example "Delivered To Original Sender" on Friday, just 2 days ago:
Indeed, a human with more than a scant grasp of English at eBay Customer Service is needed to look at the tracking, as an Item Not Received Request would fail since eBay does not notice the delivery back to the sender's zip code.

Ebay tracking details pull directly from the USPS database. Ebay does not create their own tracking info. They update with USPS a couple times per day.

Yes. The buyer should file the case and then call ebay so they can have a human look at the tracking.
