TRS return requirement discrepancy

Thanks to the new terrible iOS eBay app update, I have had to go through my listings and make sure my return policies are all 30 days in order to maintain my Top Rated Seller benefits.  In my shipping policy page where I can edit policies it says I only need a 14 day return policy to qualify for TRS benefits.  But EVERYWHERE else in ebay says it needs to be 30 days.  The new ios app update doesn’t allow one to change it from 14 to 30 days. So, I have everything set to 30 days, but in the event I miss something thanks to the unfriendly update, is this discrepancy going to be sufficient evidence to get my discount!?!

Whenever you find a discrepancy. always report it to eBay. Thanks for providing the graphic evidence -- I am flagging this thread to the attention of tyler@ebay and @Anonymous so they can pass it along to the team responsible for the error. ~~C~~

Re: TRS return requirement discrepancy

For TRS you can have a 14 day return policy and a handling time of whatever you desire.  You are confusing TRS and TRS Plus.

TRS is the status you can achieve if you meet the requirements of the TRS program.

TRS Plus is a discount level you can reach IF you are a TRS seller.  The TRS Plus discount is by listing.  Meaning you can have some listings meet the requirements and some you don't.  On listings that you offer a 30 day return policy AND 0-1 day handling time, those will qualify for the TRS Plus discount and badge.

You do NOT have to have a 30 day return policy and a 0-1 day handling time to be TRS.  It is ONLY for the listings you want to get the 10% discount on your Domestic FVFs.

If you want to have a 14 day return policy, you can still achieve TRS status, you just won't get the discount that is offered for TRS Plus.

@duchess-at-speakeasy

It isn't a discrepancy, it is a misunderstanding.

Re: TRS return requirement discrepancy

TRS requires an account in good standing, 95% tracking upload and 100 total sales and $1000 in one year, along with a few other things covered in the link below.

To get the TRS+ discount, you have to be  a TRS, have a same or one day handling time and accept thirty day returns.

Thanks for pointing out the TRS vs TRS Plus, not sure I realized there is a difference.

Re: TRS return requirement discrepancy

Semantics!

The OP mentions "TRS benefits" -- which I interpret as including the 10% FVF discount.  That means TRS+.  Low-volume sellers who barely qualify as TRS usually aren't concerned about 14 vs. 30-day return policies.

In any case, eBay's website and app should make all "requirements" crystal clear. If the OP does not know the difference between TRS and TRS+, then a lot of other sellers may be confused, too.  Here on the boards, we often get complaints about "increased" postage costs that simply are the result of being demoted to Above Standard.  The reasons are varied, and one of them could be the seller's return policy.

Re: TRS return requirement discrepancy

Commercial Plus rates for Priority Mail apply to all shipments by a TRS, not only the listings that qualify for the TRS-Plus badge and the 10% FVF credit. So that would be the benefit (singlar) of being a TRS without meeting the TRS-Plus requirements.

I respect that you "interpret" it to be inclusive, but it isn't.  You would be incorrect.

I don't think this is true either.  IMHO it depends on the seller.  Some it will matter to and others it will.  It would depend on what they are selling and the needs of that seller.

In any case, eBay's website and app should make all "requirements" crystal clear.

I agree.  There are many "requirements" that are not clear, but in this case they are.  Some are just trying to mix things together.  Ebay doesn't.  But some members do as they don't or aren't seeing the differences that are there.

If the OP does not know the difference between TRS and TRS+, then a lot of other sellers may be confused, too.

ABSOLUTELY !!

You can be TRS without having listings that are TRS Plus.  Just because a seller may meet the "requirements" for TRS does NOT mean they meet the "requirements" for TRS plus on their listings.

Ebay have different "requirements", which Ebay does state in their rules as the OP posted them originally.

I feel calling this semantics, along with further excuses for why you mistakenly called this a discrepancy, just confuses other posters even more.

I've misread or gotten confused too when posting,  but try to always post I was wrong so not to further complicate the issue.  It's easy to mix up the terminology.

Thanks for the tag @duchess-at-speakeasy, and for bringing this up to begin with @mommakat2002.

While @mam98031 gave an excellent breakdown of the difference between Top Rated status and the Top Rated Plus discount, I see from the screenshots attached that the Business Policies page is definitely giving outdated info (re: 14 day returns).

I've gotten a recommendation to alter the wording to reflect the 30 day requirement for Top Rated Plus discounts, or to change the wording overall to be clearer. Thanks again!
