Shipping upgrade question.

Purchased an item that ships at 6oz's. It came with free Media Mail shipping and I asked the seller about upgrading it to First Class and I would pay the 30-35 cents difference in cost.

The seller just messaged me that they sent it Priority as that was the next option and it cost $6.65.  (What happened to First Class?)

I asked for First Class because I knew the cost difference from Media was minimal and First Class and Priority either show up the same day or one day apart so I didn't want Priority or ask for Priority.

Whats done is done but my question is should I pay the $6.65 or the difference between the Media and Priority price. Media costs $2.66 so it would be a $4.00 difference which is a lot more than the 30-35 cents that I expected if it was sent First Class as I requested.

TIA

If your original request to the seller specified First Class, then I would ignore their request for funds to ship it via Priority Mail. You certainly don't owe them the whole $6.65; it's up to you whether you send them the $4 for the upgrade.  I wouldn't, since they didn't do as you requested.

@wontpaytoomuch  Just because you asked for First Class does not mean the item qualifies for that from a weight standpoint.  If the "Media" you purchased weighed over a pound then First Class is NOT an option.   I know you mentioned 6 oz but you probably should have double checked the weight with the Seller ... maybe they got the weight wrong until they packed it up and realized it was heavy.

I have bought and sold many of these exact same items and I know that they ship at 6 oz's in a bubble mailer.  I asked for First Class and was willing to pay the difference because I didn't want to wait forever for Media Mail.

As I said earlier I didn't want or ask for Priority. In the past when I have purchased this same item and it was listed with $x.xx for Priority I asked the seller if First Class was an option for less money. If they offered First Class I was interested but if not then I hit the back button.

$2.66 is the postage cost for up to 1 pound via Media Mail.  If it could be shipped for $2.66 via MM, then it could also ship as a First Class package.  At the very least, the seller should have mentioned that it couldn't go via First Class, before investing in Priority.

If it were me I would contact the seller and offer to pay the difference between Media Mail and First Class mail as you requested in the beginning. I would not pay the $6.65. If they don't like that offer then let them cancel the sale and they can have USPS intercept the package and return it to them.

You did not ask for a Priority Mail upgrade so no you should not have to pay for it. The choice to do Priority Mail was theirs so they should absorb that cost.

JMO of course.

Package intercept costs $13.45.
