Shipping method different from method shown on item

Why does Ebay allow sellers to show their method of shipping is Fedex ground and then after you purchase item they ship it in the mail USPS especially when the item has a guaranteed delivery date. This has happened to me twice , when I asked seller I get told that shipping defaults to fedex and shipping is free so get over it. 1st lets be honest shipping is not free it is just factored into the price , 2nd if you guarantee delivery date why would you use a method of shipping that will tell you right up front that they don't guarantee delivery dates.

USPS first class is actually faster than FedEx ground.

Re: Shipping method different from method shown on item

Sellers do NOT set Guaranteed Delivery dates (that's all eBay's ingenuity).
If you are getting an item with FREE SHIPPING, and you have not selected an upgrade, what exactly is the complaint? I mean, you're covered under several ebay guarantees on this purchase. And, yes, the cost of shipping MAY be factored into the item price, but you AGREED to pay that price, so it IS free shipping since you were not charged a separate shipping fee.

It has been my experience that buyers will find something to complain about so they have grounds to ask for discounts, which is still a violation of policy to ask, even though partial refunds are allowed if seller initiates.

Re: Shipping method different from method shown on item

I am a seller and I can tell you basically what happens with me. If fedex ground 2-5 day delivery is stated as the shipping option on the listing but it's cheaper to send it Priority 2-3 day  I will ship using Priority. Now if the seller sends it a slower service like parcel select 2-9 day that's just wrong. When I offer free shipping I put the Parcel select 2-9 day as it gives me wiggle room depending on where the customer and how much it cost to ship it to them and that way if they get it way before the time then it's a plus. And as the other person mentioned we don't get to chose the expected delivery date ebay does that based on the shipping option provided.

Re: Shipping method different from method shown on item

I totally understand what you are saying when receiving an item via standard shipping , but the 2 orders I am referring to listed their items with guaranteed 3 day shipping and then shipped by priority mail.

Are you referring to something that says “guaranteed delivery by x/x/xx ?”  If so that’s not a guaranteed fed ex service being offered it’s Ebays guaranteed delivery promise    If it was shipped first class or priority mail it could still meet eBay’s guaranteed date.  If it doesn’t you have the option of returning if the seller has a return policy and eBay will provide a return label or the a $5 voucher

Priority Mail is typically the fastest service available (for a reasonable price), so I don't understand your objection.

Regardless, if eBay advertised the item as guaranteed by a particular date, and it arrives after that date, then you can submit a claim for late shipment ... since this is a free shipment, you would get a $5 credit.

Re: Shipping method different from method shown on item

Well now that I understand that this is something that Ebay just automatically does on sellers with a minimum number of sales per year , and is Not the seller making this promise I would delete this whole thread if I knew how.
But after learning more about how this works and is done by ebay , if I were a seller I would opt out of this to avoid having unknowing buyers from being upset at the wrong persons.

Since the seller had free shipping eBay likely put them in the guaranteed program under the fast n free protocol the seller can’t opt out if that’s why they’re in it.

Re: Shipping method different from method shown on item

I just bought something and the seller changed the shipping method.  The listing says fedex ground, and the seller sent it freight.  This is a huge difference for me.  Fedex ground will deliver it to my garage but freight only the the curb.  What do you all think about this change?

Is this something too large for fed ex ?

That is probably the case, it is a swimming pool.  But I chose this specific pool because the delivery was fedex and not freight.  I don't know if a semi can get down my street.  I feel let down.
