Did you mean:

Shipping fee %

First off I know why they did it, with AI today, they can find a way to see the items that are overcharging on shipping.

They are not involved in any process of the shipping.

But anyway, my question is what is the shipping fee in terms of percentage?

I looked, but cannot find it.

I had to look at the last item I sold. It was $3.75 to ship it, and was charged 38 cents. So it came out to 10%.

But it cost me like $4 and change to ship it. Don't eBay realize that not everyone has a printer?

Being that I have to go to USPS office to ship and pay for it, how much % does ebay give you off of printing a label? I will then also have to add that onto the cost of my items.

Like it it cost me $8.00 to ship something, and if I print if through PayPal getting a 25% discount. That would be $6. But being that I am paying at the counter, I am paying $8.

Maybe it would be better if I just add the 10% onto the item them.

I was thinking of offering free shipping, and just add 10% to the final cost of the product.

Re: Shipping fee %

Its a combined ten percent of your sold price and shipping..I doubt that Ebay cares if you dont have a printer.

Re: Shipping fee %

You chose the amount to charge the customer for shipping so that part is on you & the shipping FVF has nothing to do with using eBay labels or not.

And while the shipping final value fee may be, in part, because of fee avoidance, it was also because of eBay encouraging Free Shipping and many sellers offering it.

What seller would offer Free Shipping and pay a higher FVF than their competitor who charged reasonable shipping?

Before the change many years ago:

Item cost $40 / Shipping $10

Free Ship Seller charges $50 and pays $5 in FVF.

Seller charging $40 for item and $10 shipping pays $4 in FVF.

Fee Avoidance Seller charges $10 for item and $40 for shipping pays $1.

Even if you eliminate the FVF avoiding seller, the shipping FVF would've happened.

If you want the discount for online labels, eBay, Paypal, stamps.com, PirateShip.com, etc, you need to have a way to print the labels.  Either own a printer or use the local library or other location that will allow you to print.

If you are going to buy the label at the Post Office you need to change your shipping options to charge the buyer the RETAIL price instead of the ONLINE price.  YOU are in control of this.

When building your shipping cost you need to account for eBay's fee, the cost of the box and packing materials, etc.  It's up to you to determine how to do that.  I choose to add a $1 handling charge on FCP items to eBay's online rate based on calculated shipping.   YMMV.

I, as many other sellers do, have added the shipping cost, shipping %age fee, FVF, cost of supplies.  etc......   into the starting price for years with  free shipping.

The online discount for shipping can quickly pay for the cost of a printer, and the continued cost of paper, and toner.  I was very fortunate to be able to get a laser printer on clearance for $30 about 4 years ago.

Re: Shipping fee %

With calculated shipping, I will not know how much it would cost me.

So that's why now I just ship everything flat rate. I got mostly clothes and small items, and just mail it out in a flat rate padded envelope.

I never pay for supplies. I used free boxes and labels for USPS.

Re: Shipping fee %

It's not a combined. They take out 10% FVF. And the another on the shipping.

Re: Shipping fee %

Im sorry, you are wrong, its a combined ten percent..not separate fees for each.

Re: Shipping fee %

What percentage does eBay take when you sell something?
eBay final value fees are 10% of the amount you were PAID, including item cost AND shipping. PayPal charges 2.9% of the payment received plus a 30 cent transaction fee.

Yeah, but they break it up into 2 on the invoice. So hence, they're separate.

Re: Shipping fee %

True..maybe thats the ops confusion..but its still a combined ten percent..not ten percent for each.

That's the POINT of calculated shipping.  The buyer is charged the correct rate for where they live compared to the seller.  The seller doesn't need to know the cost because it will be correctly shown and billed to buyer.  Adding a small handling fee covers the FVF on the shipping + whatever other shipping costs you may have.

I hope you're not one of those sellers that use cut up free boxes or the free bubble mailers as padding.  (That's against postal regs.)

Most of my items go 1st Class, so before the January change to "zoned" I knew the shipping cost.  With the "zoned" I added a few pennies to the price.

I checked after the 1st 50 sales, and it averaged out short ride/long ride to where I did not lose enough to be concerned.

I do not go to "flat rate" until the weight warrants it to avoid excessive shipping costs that can deter sales. (be they (the shipping costs) hidden in the price of the item with "free shipping", or as an added charge.)
