I'm hoping somebody can help me out here. The past few days I've been getting screwed on shipping charges. I input the correct weight and dimensions into the shipping calculator. I choose Seattle as the destination because it's the furthest away from me. I click the eBay rates button and it estimated $11.71 for FedEx. I then go to ship it and it charges me $16.65. This is the second FedEx package as well as a couple other First Class packages where I have to pay out of pocket to ship the items. What am I doing wrong or is it an eBay glitch? This has just started happening in the past few days, it's usually right on with the estimate.

For First Class packages, be sure that you're choosing "Package" and not "Large envelope" in the menu for package type.

Ya, I made that mistake once but have selected package since. This is a recent issue with FedEx mostly, not sure if I need to adjust my settings or if I'm doing something else wrong.

Fedex is only cheaper on the estimate, make sure to review what they actually charge as it may come as a shock to you, use with caution they have an arbitrary $875 charge among others they simply stick it to those who aren't thoroughly versed in "the way."

What I don't understand is eBay is telling me it will cost $11.71 to ship the item with eBay rates, so the buyer pays $11.71. However, when I go to print the shipping label through eBay it says it's going to cost me $16.65. I can understand it being over or under by a few cents but not off by $5. Should I stop using eBay discounted rates for shipping and just start estimating the full price? Should I only use USPS from now on?

Did you enter accurate dimensions in the calculator when you got the estimate?
I have used FedEx several times and I offer discounted rate to the buyer and the price is always within a few cents of what they paid.
