I just think FedEx gets a bad rap all the time on here.
I paid for an item on Sunday May 19th...and it arrived today from Pennslyvania to me in San Francisco.
I 'd like to see eBay shipping hubs do that...and then maybe more sellers would use it.
My package for out for delivery today at 11:30AM-2:30PM...my doorbell rang at 11:33AM.
I always buy from this guy because he uses FedEx...and the tracking is incredible.
I didn't realize until the next day of purchase that it had "free shipping" on this item as well...a second win for me. Now that's service...and that's how a seller gets "repeat buyers".

It is wonderful that you had a very good experience with them. Others do not or have not. There have been all kinds of threads regarding this. Not to mention extra charges that come in after the fact that are quite difficult to deal with and get your money back.
Then there are those sellers that it is not economically right for them. Like me, shipping any other method than USPS will price me right out of here.
BTW, out of all the packages I ship, even with all the current problems we have today with USPS, a very small percentage of my packages get delayed and I've never had one lost.

None of the domestic packages go through the eBay consolidation hub.
The only packages that go through eBay consolidation hubs are international packages. All domestic packages go by whatever carrier a seller chooses. (USPS, UPS, FedEx, DHL)
It seems any shipping company can have problems, but lately FedEx has been the worst with additional charges applied to the seller after the item is delivered.

The hubs Ebay has are only for international shipments which is why only international shipments are processed through there IF the seller is using EIS.

Using an eBay shipping label from like New Jersey to California will never enter a eBay hub? Interesting...I did not know that.
If the seller actually ships the items themselves without an eBay shipping label...there would be no additional charges applied to the seller after the item is delivered...or will there?

It doesn't matter where you purchase a shipping label from, (eBay, Pirate Ship, FedEx or UPS website etc.) if they decide you didn't pay enough, they will come back and charge you.
I always ship USPS Ground Advantage and take my packages to the Post Office and have them hand scanned in by the Postal Clerks. That way if USPS tries to say I didn't pay enough postage I have the receipt to upload proving it was accepted and weighed at the Post Office.
I so far haven't had any that needed extra postage, but I did have a few where I received a refund for paying more than the item actually weighed and I paid for. Usually packages right around 1 pound, I always bump up to 1 pound.
I could care less what a seller uses to ship to me as long as I receive it in a timely fashion. I don't buy anything online that is time sensitive. But when I ship the last carrier I will ship with is FedEx due to the problems I have seen on this and other forums.

It is not actually an eBay label. It is a USPS, UPS or FedEx label you purchased thru eBay and shipped via USPS, UPS or FedEx. EBay only ships through their international shipping hubs. Nothing domestic aside from eBay shipping supplies.

Again the use of the Ebay hubs is solely for sellers that use EIS and ship internationally.
Oh there has been plenty of sellers that have gotten additional charges from Fedex and UPS after the initial shipment. IDK why, but there are many threads on it. You could search the Community and learn more if it is of interest to you,

How good FedEx service is depends ENTIRELY on where you live. It's fine for me because I live in a major city, but my friend who lives in a much more rural area has no end of problems with them. They generally do not do well in more rural areas (and there are often extra surcharges for rural delivery as well).

Congrats on never having had a package lost. I had only had one lost package claim with USPS, which they paid, prior to October of 2023 then I went through a crazy period where I had 4 lost packages, none were ever found, in about a six month period. USPS paid the claims on all of those very quickly and it has been quiet every since.
