Hello all—
I’m writing in hopes of receiving some guidance because every attempt I’ve made to resolve this has ended with more & more wait times. So I sold an item & the buyer requested a return with the reason being “item did not match description”. It did match & it was authentic, but either way I was waiting for the return to be delivered to issue the refund. Well the item arrived & a refund was automatically issued by eBay. HOWEVER, the package was empty & the item was kept. I appealed the decision & was instantly granted an appeal & told the money would be returned in 24-48 hours. This was on Monday & I have yet to receive the money. Every time I call customer service it’s another reason with a longer wait time. I’m out the item & the money. What do I do? I’m a single mom & also unable to work as I am my grandmas primary live in caregiver. So selling some of my NA jewelry inheritance has been the way I’ve supplemented & survived.

It has been 2-3 years since I experienced what you are writing about, so what I am about to write could be old (incorrect).
First, eBay is refunding your money in this case out of their own pocket. And, the CSR told me at the time that eBay processes these payments once a week (I think it was Thursday), and that it should arrive 1-2 days after that. So, if that was accurate, or still is accurate, it could actually take more than 24-48 hours to see the refund.
Second, if it doesn't show up in your account in 7-8 days, then come back to this thread and we can tag an eBay employee to view your comments above and look into your situation. They are quite helpful.

This doesn't sound like an eBay comp? more like an ill-informed Peggy.

I spoke with a supervisor yesterday & received more information; however, I understand what they are saying about the various time frames but feel uninformed as to WHY the 48 hours have beyond passed but yet no money still.

eBay Customer Service is pretty bad when it comes to out-of-the-ordinary situations. You can call eBay customer service 10 times, and speak with 3 supervisors, and you'll get 5-10 different answers.
Generally speaking, they are trained to follow a script. If they have to go off script (for a unique situation), then they have poor English comprehension skills, and their culture apparently teaches them that it is better to give an inaccurate answer than to say "I don't know".
