Sold an iPhone about 2 weeks ago. Item was paid for and shipped immediately. Item was marked delivered a week ago yesterday. Today I receive notice the buyer wants a return claiming a cracked screen. Screen was not cracked before shipping and eBay images clearly reflect that. Additionally the buyer has had the phone for over a week. Any damage occurred could have been the result of the buyer use. What are my options?

Accept the return and HOPE you get back the same item you sent out and in the same condition (that the damage claim was a ruse).

This post makes me glad I don't sell phones. I think you'll need to accept the return and take your chances though.

Engage the Buyer using eBay messages ONLY.
Play dumb, ask for pix, ask if they think the package was damaged by the carrier (keeping in mind that there are no eBay rules that force the Buyer to respond to any inquiry that you make to them in eBay messages).
Be apologetic, be nice, be cordial, be sympathetic.
You are hoping that they slip up and say something in Messages that reveals they caused the damage. It's a longshot, but an admission that they caused the damage ""should"" work in your favor if you ask eBay to step in and impose a ruling.
It's your only play, other than immediately rolling over, telling them "Return for refund" and take the loss.
Any insurance on the shipment?
