Hello everyone,
I recently purchased a $42.05 dollar gift from Japan for my son (which is already at my local area), and a notice from USPS has been left on Dec 13 when I was at work and my son was at school. The gift is expected to arrive between Dec 13 and Dec 28. Since no one was home at the time, the notice is left and when I got home, I filled it out (checking off the boxes saying"redeliver" and signing, assuring that it will be left out on the front porch). I have no time to go to my local USPS for pickup. When I checked again later, the peach-colored notice was gone and replaced with regular mail, indicating the carrier had taken it. Will this guarantee that my parcel will be re-delivered at my doorstep within the next few days (dropped off without anyone home)?

Guarantee? No.
But it SHOULD be there the next delivery day. You can call your local post office and ask them.

I'd they took it, I'd say yes. You can always catch your mailman/woman and ask just to be sure. ..

Tomorrow? The Notice said wait at least two days prior to recieving it.

Most likely the next day--at least that how it worked for a couple of packages when i received that notice.
You can call the post office to verify the expected delvery date.

It could now be delivered to be picked up from your "porch" by anyone.
After you signed the slip, and delivery is scanned the seller/USPS/eBay have completed their obligation to you.

No guarantee.

You can always have someone you know that your expecting a package and can't be around to meet the postman --my neighbor as well as myself have done this in the past due to working hours.

So far, its status is still "In Transit" with a notice left as the last message. I am home during the weekends. Do they ring the doorbell?

If you signed the 3849 (peach colored slip) allowing delivery the carrier will scan that form when they deliver the package to you. The item will likely be left whereever a package delivey is normally lefy by USPS with no additional contact.
I have a form on file at the Post Office that directs the carrier as to where things that do not fit in the box are to be placed.

Some do; some don't. The UPS guy rang our doorbell yesterday; the substitute USPS guy does not. (Plus, of course, their first attempt is to wedge the package into our streetside mailbox, and if that succeeds, they don't come up to the porch at all.) Our regular carrier has our standing permission to drive right up our driveway, and we always get the doorbell ring as well.
P.S. The next time you fill out the notice for the carrier to make a return dropoff, you have nothing to lose by scrawling "Please ring doorbell" across it as well, so there's no doubt of your request. They're not going to stand there waiting for you to come to the door, but they should at least push the button since you're requesting that.

Does your post office have a telephone that anyone answers?
