Need advice

I made a mistake one night buying a $1 item from China. The listing said it was free shipping but when I pressed buy it turned out to be $100 shipping. I just noticed this as I was pressing the PayPal confirm button. (It’s all one step now). Within three minutes I had submitted a request to cancel order explaining it was supposed to be free shipping. They denied my request because they said it was already shipped even though they didn’t physically ship it for three days. Ebay said that they couldn’t help me and I had to start a claim through PayPal, which hasn’t been successful so far. Do I have any hope of seeing my money?  I refused delivery of the item and returned it to sender.

Re: Need advice

If you can prove that the listing offered free shipping to your location (by saving a screenshot of the listing--specifically, the shipping cost information--you can file a claim for "Item Not as Described," since shipping is part of the item description. You probably won't even have to "prove" it, but saving a screenshot of the listing is always a good idea.

When you buy an item from China, all bets are off, really. The estimated delivery date is usually so far out there that eBay can no longer help if there's an issue. Getting postage to return a item gets complicated. It's just not a good idea for any number of reasons.

While eBay may have denied your request to cancel, that is not an action on a "case." Did you actually file any kind of case through eBay's Resolution Center? Or did you just call and talk to Customer Service about cancelling? Alas, however, if you've opened a claim through PayPal, you may have voided your opportunity to invoke eBay's Money Back Guarantee. What kind of case did you file with PayPal? Refusing delivery of the item was not the best approach, since both eBay and PayPal will probably consider the refusal of the item to be just as good as an actual delivery.

Re: Need advice

I called EBay as soon as the cancellation was refused and the girl I talked to told me to stop payment at my bank which I did and the bank did, but PayPal put it through on my credit card which I couldn’t stop payment on. The EBay rep told me that I needed to start a dispute with PayPal to resolve this, which is what I did. I even sent a screenshot of the original listing but of course the seller has now changed the listing to $100 shipping. The seller won’t even answer any of my questions and PayPal keeps siding with him and telling me I can appeal their decision.

Re: Need advice

Also, I had to go through PayPal’s resolution Center because if you try to open a dispute for item not as described in Ebay, they just reroute you to PayPal. This whole thing has been going on for more than a month.

Was this a multiple quantity listing? If not, there is no way the seller changed the lasting to show $100 shipping after your bought it.

Re: Need advice

If you bought on a mobile it is a very well known glitch that shows free shipping when it is not. Ebay has known about it for years and years.

If you refused the package you are out of luck here on ebay in regards to ever seeing your money returned.

Re: Need advice

It was a mobile purchase but when I went back and looked at the listing it said free shipping the day I bought it and now it clearly says $100 shipping so I don’t think it is that glitch or it would still say free shipping.

You just accurately described the very glitch I referenced in action.

You actually might have luck if you call ebay.

If the seller revised the listing since you purchased it there would be a link at the top of the page so you could see the listing the way it was when you bought it. You may have to use a desktop to see it. It's the blue hyperlink that says "item you purchased".
