when I list in the books & magazines category media mail is no longer a shipping option. Can anyone shed light on this?

I get that. Different shippers have different rates and this is an attempt to get the buyer the least expensive shipping. eBay does not allow me to choose multiple shippers. Sometimes USPS is cheaper, sometimes UPS is cheaper. I try to run a price for both and choose the lowest.

Do NOT put even 1 magazine in a box labelled media. If the post office opens the box and sees the magazine, it no longer qualifies as media no matter how many books are in the box. My post office is small and they have alot of time to open up the packages marked media to verify the contents.

I am not trying to misuse media mail. The magazines I have listed do not have ads. According to my postmaster as long as the publication does not have ads they qualify for media mail.

Your postmaster is mistaken. I posted a link upthread with media mail guidelines and it shows magazines are not eligible - with or without ads. You can give your postmaster that link and teach them something about shipping. 🙂

Actually, it's entirely possible to set your listing up with multiple carriers where the buyer can choose the one they want.
On the listing form you'd click the option to add another shipping service. If you're using business policies then you'd have to set up a policy that offered multiple services. Let us know if you're using biz policies or not so we can get you the right info for adjusting the listings.

your postmaster sounds like ebay customer service
they are full of it
magazines have there own rate because they are periodicals
periodicals are not media mail

Thanks for the info. I was not aware that I could indicate multiple services. That’s a big help and I will do so from now on.

Did not actually look at your listings, but I believe most of the items in that list, like boots and a mink coat, can be, and are, shipped USPS, UPS or FedEx. USPS, I believe, limits packages to 70 pounds.

Have to wonder about Cooks magazine as, unlike most periodicals, they don't include advertising.
Consumer Reports also falls into that category.

No prob! You'll just have to be careful to check which option the buyer chose at check out - so if they select USPS, use that service even if UPS is cheaper and vice versa. Sometimes buyers select a service based on carrier, not price.
I often have issues with FedEx in my area, so if I saw USPS or UPS at a slightly higher rate, I might choose one of those services instead and if FedEx is all that was available or it was significantly cheaper, I'd prob go to my online FedEx account and request they hold the package at their local facility where I could go and pick it up.
For many buyers the carrier won't matter, but for some it will so keep that in mind.
If you offer two different methods from the same carrier (ground and priority from USPS), make sure you don't downgrade just because it's cheaper. Per eBay policy you can upgrade the service (use priority when buyer paid for ground) but you can't downgrade (use ground when buyer paid for priority). If it's a truly significant cost savings you can ask the buyer if downgrading is OK provided you refund them the difference, but otherwise, ship using the service they chose or better.
You may know this stuff already, but since you're new to offering multiple services on the same listing I figured it was worth mentioning @parkercreektrading.

Excellent info and tips. Helpful and much appreciated. Some of the ppl responding have not been very nice. I might have been selling on eBay for 23 years and have 10k+ feedback but that doesn’t mean I know every nuance. Always grateful for useful and kind assistance.

Well, that may be true but, if an item is listed in the magazine category, there won't be an option to purchase a MM label anyway....at least not via eBay labels.

Yes, eBay does allow for different shippers in your listing.
It is not up to you to choose the lowest, it is up to your buyers using the options you are offering.
I repeat.
This simply cannot be someone that has this many feedback that can possibly be this clueless on shipping. What is going on????
Nobody is going to contact you and ask for shipping quotes. Then what? Build a listing for that person. Use calculated shipping. Offer more than one option...yes, eBay DOES allow that. You simply are making zero sense on your shipping.

I have no idea where the OP gets 79 issues of Cook's Illustrated for those years with six issues per year.
Something simply is not computing here.

My assumption is duplicates - if that's the case the seller should disclose it.
Someone else suggested splitting up in to smaller lots and I strongly agree with that advice for this listing. Lots that will fit in a med flat rate box might be a good option, unless ground shipping is cheaper based on weight.
This needs to be revised:
I WILL SHIP MEDIA MAIL. SADLY, EBAY’s CALCULATOR DODNT OFFER THAT OPTION TO ME. I WILL SHIP THE LEAST EXPENSIVE WAY. THE SHIPPING PRICE IN THIS LISTING IS A GUIDELINE ONLY.
Shipping cost cannot be a 'guideline' unless seller plans to refund excess - it's against policy to charge a buyer more $ after the fact no matter what kind of disclaimer is put into the listing description. If these were eligible for media mail then it is easy to look up price of MM based on weight and charge an accurate flat rate.
