eBay charged me $32 for a shipping label that included $12 of actual USPS postage. Won't be using that "service" again.

More information might help...
What do you mean $12 of actual USPS postage...

For the past twenty years, every single USPS label I've printed here - without exception - has been spot on correct . Did you add insurance? Signature confirmation? Those cost extra. Was the package weight and measurements added in correctly?

eBay only charges the actual postage cost. How did you determine that the actual postage was $12? We can probably help if you provide specific details, including package weight and dimensions, service used (e.g., Priority Mail?), both ZIP Codes, and both exact prices.
Did you know that USPS has surcharges for large packages: $4 for package length over 22 inches, $15 for package length over 30 inches or volume over 2 cubic feet, and a special formula to figure "dimensional weight" for packages with a volume over 1 cubic foot (1728 cubic inches)? Any of those can significantly increase the postage cost above the basic rate which is based only on weight and distance.

Do you have another account? Nothing is shown as sold/completed or currently listed in the past few months on this account. Feedback received for selling shows nothing received in over a year.
These are user boards, other buyers and sellers. We can only see what is public information, so would have no idea about the charges.
Without more information there is no way anyone here can make suggestions as to what happened.

I'm going to guess here that you used the online price checker to set the amount you charged without entering the package dimensions, but that when you shipped the package was larger than the recently updated USPS limits and so you got hit with the oversize fees. Is that what you mean?

Wonder if the O.P. is looking at their fees per transaction? I tried a few weeks ago and they make simply hard to understand. I'm not an accountant! What I noticed on one of mine of how the final fee percentage is 23 to 25%, but I see they exaggerate the cost of shipping label.

Are you a buyer or seller?

Ebay charged you based on the weight and the dimensions. I have never seen ebay charge me the wrong amount on a package. I sell with 2 other IDS and I use ebay shipping. I have easily shipped over 200 packages in the last 2 years and everything was fine.

what you are implying is not likely, but maybe we can help if we had accurate information.....

eBay Community -
I apologize for this post.
When I saw your replies today, I went back and checked my eBay label purchase. eBay charged me exactly what the USPS postage amount was. I don't even know how I got that number.
so - Correction: eBay's label service is fair and convenient. I will be using this service again.
Thanks for your replies and inquiries.

Very gallant! I happen to use USPS exclusively and find that I receive a whole lot of bang for my buck. Thank you!

I have had several erroneous cost adjustments. Flat and regional packages cost adjusted to weight based. They didn’t exceed the weight limits for the packaging. Not even close. Ship long enough and you will get a dimwitted cost adjuster. Unless you have all day to play phone maze and wait on hold you won’t get the stolen funds back.

I think eBay's label program is a rip off because they should not consider the shipping charges as the seller's profit. For example I sold my merchandise for $65. I bought a label from eBay for $37.80 and they charged $5.65 for tax. That was a total of $108.45. Then they hit me with 13.5% on $108.44 (?) which was $14.75, and oh yes a Final Value Fee(?) of $.40 bringing my total fees to $15.15 in fees.
So then they subtract $15.15 and $5.65 from $108.45 which brings my net to $87.65. So then they take away the $37.80. Wait what? I bought a label, the seller pays that for shipping and then eBay takes it away again from me?
So my payout after all of this is $49.85? That brings the actual 'fee' on a sale of $65 not 13.5% but a whopping 23.38%! Does that seem fair?
I've been with eBay for a very long time. Back when fees were a reasonable 2% and it seemed as though eBay was your partner. But now they are just greedy. This convoluted new system is like a shell game. A devious way to reach deeper into their clients pockets.
Even the rep on the chat line finally said when I was confused about this was, "well I've answered your question, that is all that I can do. Just like credit cards have fees, eBay has fees" and then abruptly ended the chat.
I understand that they are a service and they make unloading our 'stuff' convenient. And we don't have to use them. But from now on I'm surely not using their label scam again. Sure it's very convenient but it's wrought with hidden fees.
