I guess I wasn't clear in my first post. The package that is lost has an ebay label on it. I've already contacted the PO and filed a missing mail report and was told to wait 30 days to file a claim. The question is if anyone else has had this happen and are items with ebay labels insured? Certain forms of mail are insured and they ask you if you want to purchase additional insurance but buying through ebay is unclear.

It doesn't matter whether you purchase your postage through eBay or elsewhere: All USPS package postage automatically includes $100 of insurance at no additional cost (except for Media Mail). This is USPS insurance, not eBay, so you would file a claim with USPS here:
https://www.usps.com/help/claims.htm
As the chart on that page shows under "Check filing period", you do not have to wait 30 days before filing. FOr most services it's 15 days.

You are covered. Also, it's less trouble to collect on a missing rather than damaged package. You still may get lucky as many are found and delivered when you file a report. I have had it happen a few times with some never found and was paid. They still might quibble on it's value however.
