Lost Package/Insurance

I  sold a handful of sports cards back on 5/31 for $296 and on 6/1 created the shipping label. The item is stuck in transit and i  went through the motions of filing a USPS claim however it states insurance was not purchased.

 

When i  look at the half of page from the printer slip it shows i  only paid $5.42 for the label however I  know I  purchased additional insurance as my total shows $9.68. I  also looked back at "recreating" the label with the same weight/dimensions/etc. and after clicking insurance it again matches to the $9.68. 

 

The one thing I  didn't realize is the ShipCover insurance rather than USPS. Is that my issue? Would I  file a claim via eBay/ShipCover vs. the USPS?Screen Shot 2021-06-08 at 7.27.53 AM.pngScreen Shot 2021-06-08 at 7.14.15 AM.png

 

I  know the package is still in transit but worried it's sat in one location for close to 7 days.

7 days in one location is not that unusual any more. If the buyer gets impatient and files a claim, you might try to intercept the package. There is a fee of about $12-15  if they recover it.

yes, you need to file with ship cover, not USPS...........but I doubt 7 days stoppage is going to mean they will refund you right away.........don't know their requirements, but I think USPS requires 30 days of no movement to consider it lost.

Lack of scan doesn't necessarily mean that it is "sitting" in the last place that scanned it.  They might have missed a departure scan, or even multiple scans.  One week in transit is not unusual for First Class.

 

Yes, if you insured through Shipcover then you will file the claim with them rather than with USPS but you should check their policies.  USPS won't look at a "lost" claim before 15 days, so probably Shipcover won't either. See section 1.4 here:

i  did open a where's my item case with USPS but was growing concerned as I  am leaving for vacation and won't have the means to reply to an inquiry should this become an issue. will hold off and cross fingers.

In the future, don't ship $296 of sports cards via First Class. Use a Priority Mail flat rate envelope or small flat rate box instead. The item has a much better chance of arriving quickly, & the cost is probably only $3.00 more. Well worth the added cost for piece of mind & potentially less hassle.

I should add, use First Class shipping only for items that won't hurt you if they are lost & you have to refund out of your pocket. Like $20 & less.

Thanks- I  typically ship Priority or FedEx and for some reason opted for this method which I  now regret. I  always buy the insurance after being burned on a destroyed package early on in my selling days.

That would be insurance calm with eBay since that is the 3rd party company they use.  I have been starting to read all the details of insurance now shipping items. Always know how much the insurance you buy covers. What it covers. How long you have to file a calm. USPS I am sure like other companies like FedEx or UPS, You need proof of how much the item is. With proof of purchase before you ship the item. Which can be an issue. How you get it taken care of.

No trees were destroyed in the sending of this message, however, a significant number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.

You have to wait 30 days past the latest estimated delivery date to file a Shipcover insurance claim on a lost package.
