I am a new seller and I am very confused by all the shipping options, services, carriers, prices, package sizing, etc. Can someone point me toward a simple reference that will help me get started with understanding eBay shipping? Thanks!

Shipping is a very difficult obstacle to becoming a reseller. If you sell everything, like I do at the moment, You need to know all about shipping.
4x4x4 boxes for small items.
12X6x6 For 70% of shoes
12x9x9 For Larger shoes
Bubble mailers for clothes, DVD's, games
7x7x7 boxes for miscellaneous stuff
Use Uline for boxes/bubble mailers. Amazon also has a good price on bubble mailers (not boxes). Buy in bulk.
Also get a box resizer, if you wanna become a reseller, you will Frankin box some stuff.

Go to your local post office and address any questions that you may have concerning shipping to them. They'll help.
It's not that difficult.

@123klv If the item is 15.9 oz or less you can ship 1st class with eBay labels. You can only ship up to 13 oz 1st class at the post office. Over that I recommend USPS priority. If a box is over 12 x 12 x 12 the shipping price increases a lot because of dimensional weight surcharges charged by all shipping carriers.
I use a lot of Regional A boxes. You can ship up to 15lbs at the 2lb rate. Regional B boxes you can ship up to 20lbs at the 5lb rate. These boxes are usually a much better deal than any regular flat rate boxes. You can only get these boxes from USPS.com
eBay shipping calculator: https://www.ebay.com/shp/Calculator
Be aware that Fed Ex and UPS are known to add surcharges and bill you later. The price you see when you print Fed Ex and UPS labels are estimates which is why I only ship USPS

The Regional boxes can still be a great value, even though the rates no longer are a convenient match for 2 or 5 pounds.
Current prices for the "A" boxes are in-between the price for 2 and 3 pounds (except for Zones 1 & 2).
Strategy around the Regional "B" box is complicated. If your package weighs over 4 pounds but not over 6 pounds, you will find that sometimes the rate for the Regional "B" box is cheaper, but sometimes the regular weight-based rate is less, depending on the Zone. The "B" box will always be cheaper than the 7-pound rate. Postage for the Regional B boxes is higher than the postage for a Medium flat rate box if you are shipping to Zones 6 - 9.
But any discussion of Regional boxes might be confusing for a new seller who is still trying to grasp the basics.
