I go to the post office every day and hand my sold packages to the clerk and ask for a receipt so that I can make sure they get scanned. Is there any purpose to holding on to the receipts? I'm wondering if, since the tracking info is automatically loaded to eBay when I print the label, I can just toss them after the packages are scanned. Thanks!

I would hold on to them for 180 days. Ebay may have the tracking number on file but you need proof of shipment for a paypal unauthorized use chargeback. Also tracking is usually purged around or before the 120 day. Its up to you but because of paypal's 180 day policy, I would save all my records that long.

I do not go every day to the PO, but I keep the receipt for about a month or two in my shredding pile, then I shred everything regardless. The one thing that I retain is the portion of the shipping label that has the tracking with the buyer's address. Those I keep for a while (at least for the six (6) month limit) in the event that I get an INR. I file them by the month.

Tossing the receipts should be fine since eBay has the tracking number if you enter it in.

I just keep things like that, I don't know why, but I do 🙂 It may not be helpful because the tracking # will recycle, but I just do and I have no idea why LOL

I would also snip and save all the Tracking from the PO. I have heard of Sellers getting a chargeback and have nothing to prove that they have sent the item. USPO deletes the files after a certain date and Neither Pay Pal or eBay can see them after the date!

There is no reason to even ask for a receipt.

@orangehound - a receipt is only important if you get some thrill out of recycling paper. - I love recycling and shredding paper - it is the highlight of my day at times 😉

When you buy something it shows in your ebay account as delivered. Ebay and Paypal should record the delivery info and keep it on file for 180 days. Would make it easier for sellers.

^^ This.
My post office uses a hand held scanner and just scans them in ... a receipt is only important if you get some thrill out of recycling paper.
If you smoke, they're about the right size to roll a cigarette.

Of course it makes sense and would make it easier for sellers. That's exactly why it's not done.
