Issues with USPS

Have any of you had an issue with the USPS not scanning packages that have been picked up? I had three packages picked up yesterday morning by my mailman but I tracked them this morning and it only shows the labels have been created and nothing has been scanned into the USPS system yet. I'm hoping that something will show up later today and maybe the system is not showing it up to date. Frustrating, as I always make sure that the packages go out either on the day of the purchase or the very next morning. 😞

Re: Issues with USPS

I have had that issue with dropping packages at post office without waiting for scan and receipt. I'm assuming they are just busy and get to them when they can. They have been delayed, but always scanned by end of business that day. I wish you luck.

Unfortunately, eBay also expects you to make sure that they get an acceptance scan within your handling window ... which is not typically practical for a pick-up when you are not present.

This is the very reason that I trundle over to the PO, grow a beard standing in line, hand my package to the clerk to be scanned and leave the PO with a receipt that shows package was accepted.  Costs me an additional $8 to make that trip, but figure those costs into my business plan.  Hmmm, maybe I should include the cost of razors too? innocent

Re: Issues with USPS

My mail lady and I were talking today.  She said her Post Master informed her that she was only to scan the first 5 packages she picks up from me.  Luckily we have a good relationship.  She scans all of my packages regardless.  Plus she has trained her subs to do the same thing for my packages as she understands e bay.

This quest stands on the edge of a blade...stray but a little and you shall fail to the ruin of us all.

Ditto!!!

.

After a few "missed" scannings at the PO that I would drop off the package(s), I decided - heck with this - and now stand in line to MAKE SURE that they scan the package(s).

The PO would obviously prefer you drop & go so that we would not clog up their lines but when they don't do their job, it makes it harder on both me (having to stand in line) & them (me clogging up their line).

Until those clerks understand this simple scenario, all I can say is ...oh well...get used to seeing my smilin' face!Smiley Wink

Re: Issues with USPS

LOL!  At one point my local PostMaster decided he would create a policy that the clerks would no long scan dropped off packages, that customers should just drop them in the big blue box in the lobby.  Oh there were signs up all over the place too.

I kept going in & standing in line.  Clerks scanned the packages while mumbling under their breath about the stupid policy.  Only had one caution me that "I'll do it this time, but ....." {pointing to the sign}

Well all of that kerfuffle lasted about a month till the signs were gone and clerks cheerfully scanned packages.

I have had long talks with my carrier about eBay selling, so he knows to scan anything that comes or goes here.  But think that IF I schedule a pick up, the carrier needs to scan item to prove he/she made the pick up.  But when it is critical, I trundle to the PO.

Re: Issues with USPS

Thanks to all. My husband had a chat with our mailman today and explained that these need to be scanned as soon as he picks them up. I guess we had a new person substitute yesterday so let's hope this won't happen again. If so, then I'll have to plan trips to the PO each and every time that I have any packages going out. Thanks for all of he responses.

HAH!  That taught that PostMaster a thing or ten!  I love it when others realize that they just need to do their jobs so that things can run smoothly for everyone - including them.  If they don't scan a package and the thing doesn't arrive at it's destination...who are you going to go and complain to?  If they thought of the situation(s) in this way, I'm sure they would rather just scan the thing instead of listening to an earful of us.  Smiley Happy

YAY!  Happy to hear you got a positive resolution from the PO.  I love USPS...they just need to do what they should do so that we can continue using them and everyone is happy.  Smiley Happy

Re: Issues with USPS

Yes, I had this problem. You start traveling up the food chain when you have a problem with the USPS.  Chances are you have a new regular or substitute carrier.  Here are the steps needed to take:

#1. Call the 800 number and open a complaint or file online at USPS.Com.

#2. Wait for the Postmaster or Supervisor to contact you within the given time period stated once you file.

#3. Take down dates, times and names letting the person know you are doing so also on every contact made.

#4. Allow that person a certain timeframe to correct the problem. If the problem continues, read on.

#5. Contact Consumer Affairs for that District. Google the number or ask the 800 CS reps for it.

#6. Allow them time to correct the problem. A couple of days at most.

#7. Go for the throat time - email or write your Congressperson detailing all of the above and what you expect.

#8. You can also write the Postmaster General - google for name and address.

Taking a step above the local level in doing #7 & #8 you set off all kinds of bells at different levels within the USPS. HQ(DC), Area Office, District Office, District Manager, MPOO(Mgr Postal Ops). Believe you me, you will get the problem fixed. You must follow the steps and don't let it lag any further. The problem will not get fixed if YOU allow it to continue. I have been there and done that. Nothing personal with your local office, it's just business.  You are paying for a service and you should get nothing less than what they advertise and you pay for.

Re: Issues with USPS

To those reading here just an FYI - The Post Office is NOT responsible for loss or damage until the scan shows they have accepted it.  Dropping your package off in a receptacle without an acceptance scan, inside or out, you are at risk. If anything happens, chances are they will deny any claims. Same goes for any third-party insurance used.  I learned that the hard way. I always get a scan even if just on their manifest pick-up scan for a number of parcels.

Re: Issues with USPS

You will find a few Postmasters still believe they can create a local policy. There is no such thing.  National policy from HQ(DC) trumps all.  No political pun intended.
