Is USPS experiencing delays?

I sold an item a week and a half ago and mailed sent it on Friday January 7th. It is going from Ohio to Louisiana. The estimated arrival date was January 11th. It is now the 15th and it still has not arrived to the buyer. The buyer has been messaging me that he has not received the item and I explained to him that I shipped it out when I was supposed to and what I can do is file a missing package report. Before I filed the missing mail report on USPS's website, the last scan of the package was on January 9 at a Logistics Center in Memphis, TN. It had not gotten any updates since the 9th other than it will be arriving late. I filed the missing package report on the 14th and it finally got an update. It arrived in Shreveport late last night and still has not made its way to the buyer. Since Monday is Martin Luther King Day, the item will not arrive until Tuesday one week after it was supposed to arrive. The same thing happened to me a month ago. I sold something and the item sat in transit for nearly 2 weeks. I filed a missing package report and the tracking started updating. Is there something going on with USPS that I am not aware of? I don't understand why mail is sitting in transit for days and weeks without any updates.

I know personally that there has been delays due to post holiday overload and Covid issues.

I can only assume that the USPS is dealing with many sick employees right now.

Was it a insured higher dollar item?

The tracking for standard envelopes and other First Class items can be flaky at best.

Is the buyer understanding?

You are not to blame if it gets lost, even though eBay may not be as understanding.

Big time weather issues this last week.
