Inquiry About Using the Same Tracking Number for Multiple Orders

A customer has placed two separate orders for the same product through the same listing and has provided the same shipping address for both orders. Given that the orders are identical and are going to the same address, I would like to know if it is acceptable to ship both orders in one package and upload the same tracking number for both orders.

Can I ship both orders together in one package and upload the same tracking number for both orders? If not, please advise on the best course of action to ensure compliance with eBay's policies and to avoid any issues with the customer's delivery.

Thank you for your assistance. I look forward to your prompt response to help resolve this matter.

Note: I am not purchasing shipping labels from eBay on these orders.

If they placed two different orders, they should be shipped that way.

Have a great day.

Yes.

As a buyer, I did just that about a week ago:  bought two Things from the same seller.  I paid the price of both items, plus sales tax for my area of California, plus the postage listed for both items.

I messaged the seller before finalizing my purchases to tell I wanted two of her listed items.  I asked if she would be willing to put both Things into the same envelope or package, buying postage for that one envelope/package, and refunding me the excess postage I paid.  She agreed to this process and refunded me very very promptly.

Of course, since my two Things were inside one envelope/package, bearing one mailing label that showed one tracking number, that one tracking number on that package did pertain to both items.

Since you say you are not going to use shipping labels purchased through eBay, I don't know about "uploading" the same tracking number, as an automated process, for both items.  (My selling ID does use eBay's shipping labels for USPS, never UPS or FedEx.)  I think it might be more like you would have to type in the same tracking number for both items.

As my selling ID, I also did this same process last year around Christmas (if memory serves), when one buyer bought two Things that were listed separately.  I do use eBay's USPS shipping labels.  I had to choose which of those two Item ID numbers I would use for purchasing postage.  The tracking number automatically uploaded into the shipping info for that item.  I then carefully typed that same tracking number info the shipping info for the second item.

As the seller, you will see that your Final Value Fees (FVFs) will initially be calculated based on the total amount paid by the buyer which, of course, will include the shipping costs for both items.  As soon as you process the refund of the excess shipping charges to your buyer, eBay will credit some of your FVFs back to you, to reflect that lower total shipping charge.

As long as they used the same exact ID each time they made a purchase, you can ship them together and add the tracking number to each order.   If they were buying as a guest, the ID would be slightly different each time and you would not be able to add the same tracking number to both orders.

I'm curious as to your reasoning for that.  I see that happen a lot and have never had a problem mailing the items together.

Some people place different orders for different reasons.

I'll place different orders with the same seller and want them shipped separate.

Have a great day.
