Incorrect tracking number or scam?

I feel like I have been recently scammed, not only by a seller, but also by ebay resolution center.  Filed a claim for package that I never received. However, the seller provided a tracking number that was not associated with my name and address at all. Problem is that FEDEX shows it as being delivered. Long story short, seller refused to work with me, and said tracking shows it's been delivered. As a buyer, FEDEX can't help me because the shipper has all the vital information needed to effect a resolution. Seller does not care, he's already got paid. What's in it for him to be reputable? Absolutely nothing!. And because seller knows once package shows delivered in system, buyer has no recourse at all. This will be last and final purchase on ebay. What's the point of providing clear information that I'm being scammed and Ebay does not care period.

It could be a mistake, perhaps the seller mixed up labels and parcels and you may receive someone elses item  soon?  Check the sellers FB to see if others have had this problem

Not likely though, but if you paid using a credit card you may be able to claim a Chargeback with your provider, they will accept the incorrect address details that you have a proof of non receipt.

Inside eBay, not sure there is much else you can do, some one more experienced should be along soon

Your seller is not the shipper, so they don't have the vital information either; in fact, your seller didn't ship anything to you, they just copied the tracking number off of a FedEx package already headed to your zip code.

And you don't need a document testifying that it's not your name and address on the package. If the bottom half of the FedEx tracking page shows

- the wrong weight e.g. 50 pounds for a smartphone, or

- the wrong dimensions e.g. a blender that's 4 feet wide, or

- the label was printed a few days before you placed your order,

THAT PROVES IT"S NOT YOUR PACKAGE.

Now that you've blown your case at eBay, contact PayPal, don't open a case, and ask if they understand its a fake delivery and can force a refund. Otherwise, contact your card issuer, have them look at the tracking and call FedEx, and chargeback a refund for you.

Incorrect tracking number or scam?

I was also the recipient of this scam. Seller provided a tracking number for a package that wasn't mine that was delivered to an address in my city.  I have a friend who works for USPS who was kind enough to provide the actual address that it was delivered to.  The seller has many negative feedbacks from others who were a victim to this and EBay has done nothing but close the cases because it shows as delivered.  Been on EBay since 2000, 21 years, and now I will never buy anything on here again.  EBay doesn't give a hoot about us.

When that happens, get a letter from the carrier stating the package with that tracking number was not addressed to you, then use the letter to appeal the case.

Have a great day.

Incorrect tracking number or scam?

Hi, same happened to me. The seller you-shop-1 provided a wrong tracking number. It seem, that even eBay didn't read the messages between the seller and I, and closed the case without providing a resolution. The seller provided a tracking number, that is true, the issue is that I checked multiple time with the USPS in-person and the tracking number provided is incorrect/wrong, it shows a different name and a different address than mine. This package should have arrived at the same address as all my previous orders, but it did not.

I submitted an appeal with eBay and Paypal, let see if this work.

Regards,

J

It's become a common scam.  The credit card company is the way to go to fight it.  Be sure you explain to them it's the fake tracking number scam as they know it by that name.

There needs to be a recourse to this. I would call the police. You can prove like that other user said that it wasn't your package.

They might try to find something that was shipped to your area. The reason they do this is because the carrier will not give you the information for where it was delivered, and it is not only because they do not have the information because THEY DO HAVE THE INFORMATION THEY'RE THE ONES THAT DELIVERED IT!!! That is not why they won't give it to you, they don't want people who have been scammed OR even people who actually did just get dragged into a mishalf and whose items went somewhere else - to end up going to the other address and throwing a fit and causing a scene or getting arrested or hurting somebody. Or even without all those things even if somebody doesn't cause a scene you don't have a right to be going on someone's private property "to get your package" because it could be trespassing in their eyes. There's many reasons why a carrier won't give you the exact location where they delivered a package. Another quick example what if you know that somebody sent a PS5 or a nice gaming PC to somebody and you want to find out where it was sent so you could go steal it off their front porch. Etc. I'm not saying that anyone here would do that I'm just saying that she had another reason I can come up with off the top of my head why they won't give somebody the address of where something was delivered. If they do then they're violating a hell of a lot of rules and maybe a law or two (like the person who said their friend did it for them, dangerous Waters for your friend)

But there needs to be a recourse for this - not it is not okay for these marketplaces like eBay or even payment systems like PayPal to close a case and then not be willing to reopen it when the victim gets more information. This happened to me and PayPal wouldn't open the case again - "it was too late" - the problem is that I opened the case I admit I jumped the gun, I didn't realize that the weight of the package didn't make sense, and also there was one of the thing that didn't make sense,  but I didn't notice that at first!!! And when I did notice it they wouldn't open the case again, which means by refusing to open that case they are literally partaking in fraud!! Because if you could prove that you got defrauded and they won't open the case even though you're telling them you can prove it that makes them an accessory. They need to change the system. Or like I said call the police or if you have a friend who's a lawyer who won't charge you to make some calls or send some emails. There has to be a System created and in place for this!! It has to happen because these scammers are getting more and more common. It is not okay to walk up to an old lady and steal her purse from her and run away, she can call the cops on you for that AND RIGHTLY SO - there should be a recourse for this stuff too.. PERIOD.

The world is so messed up in so many ways it makes me sick. At that point eBay doesn't care because they already got their commission for listing the item!!!! The item that probably never existed, and never got sent, hell It could even be an inside job, what if the person that works for eBay knows who's doing it or is doing it themselves because they know that they're going to be the one that gets your case?? I know that that little tidbit is unlikely because it's probably hundreds of people that work at eBay handling those cases - but that's just an example of how this could go wrong and why it needs to be changed.
