Ok so today for example I am actually shipping something to our daughter 250 miles away in a 4 x 6 vinyl mailer that weighs 2 oz. I go to usps click n’ ship and the cheapest label I can buy is like $2.90. While this is not an eBay item today, I run into the same issue a lot with very small items I sell on eBay, and usually they don’t have a huge profit margin to begin with. I was shipping bandanas that weighed like 1oz in a vinyl mailers recently and the shipping was like $3-$4 depending on where in the US it was going. There’s got to be a cheaper way. I like the convience of printing label postage but Jesus just a reg stamp should cover the shipping of the items I’m referring to. I see sellers listing some small items for say $1 free shipping, how are they doing it? Thanks

Since you are sending it to your daughter and, presumably, tracking is not an issue you might as well jut bring it into the post office and pay for it over the counter. You should be able to send it as either an oversized envelope or a "flat" both of which will be less than he $2.90. Neither of those services are available on line.
As for the items you sell on eBay you can do the same thing BUT you will not have either tracking nor proof of delivery. So if a buyer says they never got it you will automatically lose the case.
So on inexpensive items it becomes a trade off. Will you save enough on postage to cover the refunds you will be forced to give to the buyer who says they never got it? If these are common inexpensive items the probability of a FALSE not received claim is most likely very minimal. But as the value of the item increases so does the likelihood of FALSE claims. Only you can balance the risk/reward on that. We all have an opinion but it fairness it us YOUR wallet on the line, not ours.

In addition to what Richard said, many of the items listed very cheaply with free shipping are coming from China. They pay almost nothing for shipping.

USPS has 3 categories for First Class mail: letters, flats (AKA Large envelopes) and packages. Each category has very specific criteria for package weight, dimensions (including thickness), flexibility, etc. The 3 categories do not overlap; any piece is in just one category.
eBay only sells labels for packages. If your piece qualifies to be mailed as a letter or flat, then you can mail it for less at the PO or just put stamps on it and drop it in the nearest "blue box" or leave it for your carrier to take.
A 2-ounce item in an envelope could fit into any of the 3 categories: If it's over 1/4 inch thick, it can't be mailed as a letter. If it's rigid or over 3/4 inch thick it can't be mailed as a flat. Here are the complete definitions/ requirements:

One way to ship small items and justify the FCP shipping is to sell them in lots.
You can ship your 1 ounce bandana for the same postage as shipping a lot of 3, 1 ounce bandanas.
