For a hanging garment bag that measures just under 2 ft x 2 ft when closed, buying a box would be very expensive. So, how do sellers of large-dimensions suitcases ship? Thanks for suggestions.

I would make a box for free.

Go to an appliance, of furniture store and see if you can get a big box, then cut it down to the size you need.

Home Depot/Walmart may have a box that is suitable. FedEx also has bags for suitcases (the official name escapes me at the moment) or as @kensgiftshop said. Also if there is a Dollar Store around, they sometimes have boxes that you can ask - Walmart recycles so there you would have to purchase one.
Oh, I forgot this, with the FedEx luggage bags, I put the suitcase in a new laundry bag from the dollar store with the bag over the laundry bag.
