How to give partial refund on a damaged return.

Hi.  Buyer asked to return a camera a few weeks after receiving it.  This item was sold as used.  They stated that they "changed their mind".  We received the item and it is not the original item we sent to them, though it was the same model.  The item they returned was damaged and unusable.  They clearly were replacing their defective camera and hoping we would just accept the return.  They are obviously claiming that it is indeed the same camera.

 

I have tried to do a partial refund with a 25% deduction for the damage, but as soon as I enter a percentage amount, the next button greys out and I cannot continue.  We are a Top Seller, so we would like to go this route to help protect our rating, as eBay's new policy says they will (we shall see).  eBay has removed the ability to call them due to the pandemic, so I resorted to an email, but still waiting for their response. 

 

Anyone else having this issue with partial refunding?

I haven't had the same issue with issuing a partial refund.

 

However, if I were you, I would contact the buyer and say that they returned the wrong item and that they need to send your item back to receive a refund. 25% deduction for returning a different, unusable item seems unreasonable.

While I agree, I have already ask them to send the original item back and they are insisting the item they sent was the item I sold them.  They have stated "Ship it back, and you are going to get a 1-star feedback as well".  I'm not about to spend another $10 to ship this item to them, only to have them then leave poor feedback and not close the return case.  Was hoping the partial refund with eBay's protection policy would be the way to go.  Still waiting for eBay to respond to my email.

 

FYI, I am a dealer for these items and I think the item is repairable.  Deducting the cost for fixing it is OK with me.

Letting you know that since they threatened you with bad feedback, then if they do leave bad feedback, you will be able to get ebay to remove it. Sorry they scammed you, not much you can do unless you want to go the route of reporting it to police or trying to sue them. If you don't figure out how to give the partial refund, after a few days the scammer will request ebay to step in and ebay will refund them from your account and you will get a hit to your performance.

Just an update.  Was finally able to offer partial refund.  Not sure what the issue was, but it magically worked today.  Maybe there was a glitch on their end or something.  I also heard back, via email, from eBay and they said even if the buyer demands a full refund, eBay will cover that amount.  I'm hopeful they would remove any feedback as well, but we shall see.  Hopefully this will be the end of it.  Put buyer on my blocked list too.

 

Curious, is there some kind of list somewhere of known eBay scammers?  Like an accumulated list that sellers add to every time a new user name scams a seller?  Thought I read a post somewhere that eluded to a list.
