That shouldn't be a problem. The next town would be in the same zone as you so the shipping cost would be the same. That's what USPS is concerned with.
I often ship with my return address and my zip but use a p.o. in a nearby town. It's never been an issue.
@calm-mix The other Post Office does not get credit for the purchased postage but they do get credit for handling the package. We have a bunch of small towns nearby and we got that attitude from a few Post Offices and I was quick to tell them that the issue is their company's metrics NOT mine. And they should complain to home office NOT a paying customer ...
Use the Survey at the bottom of the Postal Receipt you get and complain (everyday if you want to) about the attitude YOU as a paying customer gets from Postal clerks because of the Postal services metrics.
Their metrics do NOT take in to account postage purchased online ... a real gaff in their programming to be honest.
@calm-mix I know this doesn't address whether this should matter to the post office, but if you just want to appease them so you get the best service, try this:
In the bulk editor, there is an option to change item location that let's you put in the zip code where the item is being mailed from.
If I'm not mistaken, this should be the zip code that appears in the ship from part of the label (top right). I don't have an outstanding order to test this.
