Guaranteed Delivery

My Ebay page has a link that says click to opt in to Guaranteed Delivery, but the link doesn't take me to and opt in site, but to the description of the program.  How do I "Opt In"?

Ebay made recent changes to GD program and this is the message I got when clicking the opt in.

Apparently they have ended the "handling time" option but they still have a lot of old information on the help pages.

They are having a lot of problems with Guaranteed Delivery right now. The USPS slowdown is causing them to miss delivery dates and eBay has been tweaking those dates and ignoring requests for the $5.00 rebate as packages are getting delayed more and more. Might not be the best time to Opt-in unless you want some angry buyers.

I'd like to remove the "Opt in to Guaranteed Delivery" links showing up at the top of all too many of my pages.  Most of my sales are mailed as USPS First Class letters with no  tracking available.  Also I have a 2-day handling time.  Is there any way to remove this?

@somanypcs

Why would you want to opt out of Guaranteed Delivery as it is something, when added to a listing, that attracts buyers.  I know for me any time I see a GD label added to a listing I am willing to pay a few bucks more for that item!

Look the GD program is eBay's program:  The put the GD tag on your listing if you meet the criteria and eBay takes the financial hit when the package arrives late.   I think most who object to the GD program appear to have not read the details of how it works and make the decision to avoid it out of a lack of knowledge.  But then again, many like to shoot them self in the foot as sellers anyway.

There is a way to kind of "opt out" of the GD program - increase your handling time to longer than 4 days.  But then of course your listing will show that there is a non standard handling time and that will drive buyers away.

If your listings show First Class mail (regular stamped mail) then the listing is not eligible for GD from the start so you have nothing to worry about.

Guaranteed Delivery

The Guaranteed Delivery program requires either a same day or 1 day handling time and/or tracking.  I'm a high volume, low cost seller.  Some days I have 90-100 items end that require shipping, and other times I have the same person biding on items that end within a day or two.  To be on the safe side, I changed both my accounts to ship with 2 days so I wouldn't get penalized for late shipping.  The 2 day handling time means none of the listings meet GD requirements, even if I send some with tracking.  My auctions have over a 90% sell through rate because my low prices attract buyers and over 50 percent of my buyers are repeat customers so I don't really need to attract buyers.  And I save money when I can wait a day or two and combine shipping.

On the other hand, I believe Guaranteed Delivery would benefit most eBay sellers.

I was able to remove the "Opt in to Guaranteed Delivery" link by clicking on the X to close that window 🙂

The requirements are simple, just meet eBay's requirements as noted in the Handling Time section (1-day or less + fast ship method)  and eBay will designate your items GD.   Any item eBay thinks can be delivered in 4 days might get GD designation.  Some of that is based on IF you meet your handling times in the past.   er, program will be around when the shipping snafus calm down and they bring it back.

Since the screenshot I posted isn't visible here is text of the message I get when trying to opt in:

...and the address in that message takes me to the old "We looked everywhere" error page so that is helpful.

The only GD in place now is the door to door option which involves a lot of stuff like setting up shipping tables etc. and it appears they're also changing "guaranteed by" to "get it by". Not sure how that's different.
