Getting ripped off by FedEx

Is this happening to anyone else? When I use FedEx I weigh my package and take the measurements and print my label through ebay.  We are supposed to get a shipping discount from FedEx as is shown in shipping options. The problem is that FedEx just seems to charge whatever they want to charge for the shipping. This is now happening every time I ship with FedEx and I am not talking about $2 or $3, the last 5 items I have shipped with them they charged me at least double and one item 4 times what the shipping was supposed to be.  Just today I was charged $37.44 for shipping on an item that the label in ebay was $16.73.  Yesterday I was charged $ 36.17 when it was supposed to be $16.89. I have contacted FedEx several times to try and resolve the issue, they take my info and supposedly file a "request" and then I never hear back.  Is anyone else experiencing the same issues? What can we do to stop this rip off from continuing?

@blistar6

With FedEx, the price that Ebay shows you is only an estiment.

They like adding extra charges.

You don't get the real charge until after the package has been delivered.

Happened to me also with UPS. The fix for me was to increase the box dimensions one full inch.

To avoid the middle man, try getting your own FedEx account. You might receive a pretty good discount.

Good luck!

i honestly think that fedex and ups know that there is no way for a individual seller to appeal to ups for mischarging.  the ups and fedex account is with ebay.

I don't have proof, but i do know that  once i started printing all my ups and fedex labels through pirateship,, the price i'm quoted is the price i'm chaged.

Yes, same exact thing happened to me recently.  eBay charged the Buyer $15.94, and supplied me an estimate of $13.94 for a FedEx Home Delivery when I printed the shipping label.  Once the package was delivered, eBay forwarded the FedEx charge of  $34.39.  The weight and dimensions provided to eBay were VERY accurate, there was no change between shipping and receiving.  The Buyer paid $50.00 for the item.  USPS does not "post-bill" their services and what you pay is final and you never get a follow-up charge like FedEx.   The problem is eBay presents the FedEx estimate the exact same way that it does for USPS shipping purchases, so you think you are paying the final price.  When you get the "real" charge from FedEx after the item's been delivered, the new number is new shocking news.  It's a mess.

I doubt the FedEx corporation would allow this pricing/billing behavior from their vendors, but they expect customers (like me) to accept this backwards approach from them.  Totally unacceptable, so I have removed FedEx from all of my listings.

Note that I complained to the eBay Shipping rep and they were able to work out of refund for me, so I was very happy with eBay in handling the problem.

When you print thru Pirateship does it show you any of the add on fees in the price?

no.. i'm not charged any of the extra fees.

the price quoted on pirateship is the same as what ebay quotes.. but I HAVE NEVER been upcharged when i buy and pay through pirateship.  Pirateship will import all your ebay sales.. so it's pretty seamless.

I hate to say it, but with the way ups and fedex are automated, it would be so easy for them to auto target labels printed through ebay.   It happens too often and there is absolutely no way to get a credit without having to spend hours going back and forth between ebay and ups or fedex..   They try to exhaust you in the runaround.

Thanks for the info.

I have some larger items that seem to be a lot cheaper to send by UPS.  Next time I list one I will offer UPS as well as USPS.  I can drop off UPS at Staples and they give me a receipt.  I am pretty sure they weigh the package before they accept it so there should never be a weight discrepancy if they do.

Same thing just happened to me.  Item weighed only 1.2 lbs and they said it weighed 28 lbs and charged me another $37 !     We will have to stop shipping our Ebay items by Fedex.  -  Lyn / Powersportusa
