I'm confused.
Maybe someone here can help us as we must be doing something wrong.
We sell something. Let's say it's a large package, 42x6x6 . Weight 5 pounds.
Ebay shipping will say $19 from our address to theirs and then we ship it.
3 days later in my ebay it says they are taking $33 instead of the $19.
They did this with FedEx multiple times, now they started with UPS.
I've noticed they've also changed the weight of items adding 10 pounds in some cases.
We shipped a set of 4 floor mats for Chevy Trax. They were cloth and ebay/fedex said they were 14 pounds when they were barely 4.
We started verifying the weights and dimensions by taking the package directly to a fed ex ship center and we are always a pound over and also an inch since we like to be safe and we always estimate high. So if the finsihed package is 6 pounds we will say 7 just to save any issues...
Fedex/ebay then comes back and says they need to take more shipping money because the weight or dimensions were wrong.
In one instance, they charged us $53 when we paid ebay $21. They didn't even change the weights or dimensions they just charged us more. When we called FedEx their website stated $39 for the item to be shipped and we asked where they got the total from they couldn't tell us.
Anyone have an answer, maybe something im.missing or something we are doing wrong?
How do you guys do it so as to not get charged extra later for shipping?
Thank you!

UPS and FedEx rates are determined by something called dimensional weight. USPS also uses dim wt but only if a package exceeds 1 cu ft.
Dim wt means that box size can at times be a bigger factor than the actual weight. Each carrier has a different divisor to determine dimensional weight.
UPS divisor is 166. Using your example:
Let's say it's a large package, 42x6x6 . Weight 5 pounds.
42 x 6 x 6 / 166 = 9.11
That means you would be charged a 10 lb rate instead of the 5 lb rate. Carriers will charge whichever is greater between actual wt and dim wt.
Unfortunately eBay's shipping calculator does not take dim wt into account for UPS or FedEx (works fine for USPS though), so the way to ensure buyers are charged the correct amount is to put whichever is greater between dim wt and actual weight into the listing form.
For the example above you would put 10 lb in the listing form, then when you purchased the shipping label you would enter the actual weight of 5 lb. This way the buyer pays based on dim wt so when you're billed at the end of the month you'll have the funds to cover it.

With FedEx and UPS, the prices you're shown is only an estimate.
They add other charges before you receive the final bill.

Around the first of April, USPS added a service charge for packages the exceeded a certain length. At 42 inches, that/those charges would be added. There have been some issues of the shipping calculator adding them.
Parcels that are longer than 22 inches but less than 30 inches will see a $4.00 surcharge. Parcels that exceed 30 inches in length will incur a $15.00 surcharge. Parcels that measure greater than 2 cubic (3456 cubic inches) feet will also see a $15.00 fee added.Mar 22, 2022

Ebay and the USPS Shipping Label Purchase prices are not correct. I entered the dimensions for a 22" x 2" x2" package at 8 oz. and the correct price comes up for the zip code I am shipping to at the rate of $3.87. The item when entering the dimensions of 23" x 2" x 2" at 8 oz. wants to charge me $9.25? That is a $5.38 surcharge for length over 23" not $4.00 so what gives? Why am I being charged an incorrect amount? Is it Ebay or the USPS that is padding the fees?

Go to USPS.com and check the cost. I don't have an answer for you. People here on the community forums don't work for eBay, we are buyers and seller. We can't see what is going on at your end.

The size limit for an online First Class package is 22 inches, so at 23 inches, your package would be upgraded to Priority Mail. But it would also incur the $4 surcharge, which would bring the total to more than $9.25...

no extra $$ charges taken/added since I started buying/ printing all big box/heavy weight item shipping labels from the USPOSTAL website. 😊

I am shipping a 2 gram item in a regular envelope and am being charged 4.84,ridiculous

Why,
It cost almost the same for the USPS to deliver a 2 gram package or 4 ounce package. $4.84 in my opinion is a bargain versus delivering yourself even across town.
