I sold an item to a buyer, and printed out a label provided by ebay (ebay envelope service).
I shipped the item in an envelope with the printed label on it, and it could be traced on ebay showing the latest status.
After a few days, the buyer contacted me and told me that the item was not delivered. He went to the post office and they told him that the tracking number didn't exist. I check USPS website on my side, and confirmed that it does not show any information on their site. The buyer claimed that I scammed him which I didn't. As the item was a tiny amount I refunded him, but I was very concerned about this case.
Does anyone experienced such case?

The ebay shipping envelope usually doesn't always show up with tracking for the seller or buyer....but eBay can see it. Buyer got you for a refund....darn.
These envelopes are "metered mail" and not "stamped mail" which means one never knows if it actually got delivered....can't see tracking. Or if something else happened. Could be envelope was too thick and not bendable and got damaged and buyer could be telling the truth. USPS will mail something damaged eventually but it takes longer to get it.
USPS doesn't want it and will mail it...thus will buyer say they eventually got it? Probably not.
Considering you sell the same items and repeat buyers are like gold in my business plan...I would eventually block this buyer from future purchases.

Hey @ifkh8006 . If you find the tracking on eBay to be lacking, you can track the ESUS number on this site: https://parcelsapp.com
Remember, this is a metered mail shipment so it does not receive traditional tracking scans and the clerk at the PO counter cannot scan it. Instead you should drop these envelopes in your PO's metered mail slot. The envelope will be scanned by sorting machinery at distribution centers along the way.
With ESE, a 'delivered' scan generally occurs at the last sort facility before it gets to the buyer, so typically the buyer will receive their order a day or two after the delivered scan.
If an item doesn't have a delivered scan and a buyer files a not received claim, you do have insurance coverage and the claims process is outlined on this page:
