Damaged item

I recently shipped an item. The buyer did not purchase insurance. It was damaged during transit and now he wants full refund. I offered half or to replace it with another item. He wants full refund. What am I suppose to do. I will be out almost $275 because he did not put insurance on it

Insurance is for the seller, not the buyer. It's the seller's responsibility to decide whether or not to insure and to pack well enough to avoid damage during shipping. If you don't work this out with the buyer and the buyer escalates a claim to eBay, eBay will force the refund from your account. Sorry I know you think this is on the buyer, but it's not. This website has a Money Back Guarantee and that MBG generally comes from sellers' pockets. It's not "buyer beware."

If you have additional questions about eBay policy let us know.

If you shipped with a service like Priority Mail there is up to $100 included insurance, although carriers usually deny damage claims citing poor packaging. Carriers will require the item and all packing materials are turned over by the buyer for inspection before they make a ruling.

You are responsible for insuring at full value without charging the buyer an extra fee. You need to include it in your shipping fee when listing.

Insurance is for YOUR protection not the buyer.

The buyer can open a case through eBay and you will have to give them a full refund and also pay the return shipping to get your item back.

You are the one who purchase insurance to protect yourself although it is difficult to collect on insurance anyway.

Buyers are covered by the MBG, they don't need to buy insurance.

The insurance is to cover the seller in case the item gets damaged or lost during shipping.

When the buyer files an INAD, you have to accept the return, pay return shipping and give the buyer a full refund.

Yes the seller has to insure not the buyer.   It would do no good for a buyer to pay for insurance as they have not control how well the item was packed.   Insurance won't cover damage due to poor packing.  You did double box with bubble warp around the item and between the boxes?

Tagging on:

Kimberly,   You are not out $275.00

You're returning the buyer his $275.00 that he paid you for a working receiver.   A working

receiver that he claims he did not receive.

The "Other item"  you offered to send?    Is it the EXACT same receiver that he purchased?

Put yourself in the buyers shoes.  If you were him,  What would YOU want?

Krazzy,   You're probably right and I probably mixed up 2 threads.
