As far as I know, USPS First Class Package using bubble mailers.  If you're shipping media, Media Mail, but the shipping time could be longer.

You’ll have to give specific package dimensions and weight.

It depends on the size and the weight of the package, and the distance between you and the recipient.  Generally, the Post Office is best for smaller, lighter weight items, UPS or Fedex for larger heavier items that are traveling a long distance.   That is a very general statement, there are lots of exceptions.  Also the speed of delivery  is also a factor.   So there is no absolute, across the board answer to your question.

for USPS anything less than 1 lb that's not media, first class mail. for media (books, cd, dvd...) media mail. Anything over a lb that fits into a flat rate envelope, use the flat rate envelope. Otherwise 99% of the times priority is cheaper than parcel select with the exception of extremely large items. Flat rate boxes are almost always more expensive than if you have your own box and weigh and print shipping.

I only use flat rate boxes if the items are heavy.   Do NOT follow the USPS tv commercial where they show businesses that use only flat rate box so that they don't have to worry about cost or get a scale.  This is ONLY good if the items are heavy.  But if it's an item that weighs 2 lbs or less NO freaking way will I bid on an auction where the seller picks priority flat mail and I can clearly see that they live near my home.

Get a scale and get your boxes BEFORE you list the item.  This way, you can measure if necessary.  Remember anything that is more than a cubic foot (12 "  by 12 by 12" may have a balloon charge.   So buy a tape measure too.  Pack your item w/o sealing the box and weigh it .  Learn to use CALCULATED shipping so that you do NOT lose money.

I also learned to NOT give the buyer a choice in shipping.  I like to have my boxes almost packed and ready to ship and I am not about to switch out a box so that the buyer saves a buck.   Nowadays , its rare when I list a heavy item  but at least when I do , I no longer lose money.
