When I calculate shipping cost for my item when listing I have noticed it comes up more when the item actually gets purchased and ready to ship?
Does this happen to anyone?
ANd should I be clicking ebay cost vs in store cost when figuring out the shipping while posting an item?
Thank you community!

The actual was 2.79.....
Indeed, $1.84 is the correct postage cost for a 5-ounce First Clss flat (AKA Large envelope).
Click on "Sell similar" on that listing to bring up a duplicate of the original listing form. That's wehre you can check up on what was selected in the drop-down menu for 'Package type."
ZIP Codes don't matter for First Class shipping of any type; prices go just by weight not by distance.

We would need more details to help you.
What shipping service?
Size of the shipping container.
Weight of the item + shipping container
Etc.

Not following exactly what you are doing. Are you figuring calculated shipping to your own zip code?
I have my settings on to offer retail cost to my buyers. Calculated shipping works fine for me if I enter my dimensions/weight correctly when I list.

In glancing at your listings your 1st class postage appears to not be enough to cover 1st class package with tracking, which you can print on ebay. Are you listing as 1st class envelope or flat---this method has no tracking and isn't available to print?

Since you haven't given any specifics, here are two guesses:
(1) You are using calculated shipping for a service with zoned pricing. When you look st your own listing, you see the postage cost to ship to a buyer in your own ZIP Code, even after the item is Sold, so in most cases the buyer pays more than that.
(2) You intended to set up calculated shipping for a First Class package, but in the drop-down menu for "Package type" you. have selected "Letter" or "Large envelope" (AKA Flat).

Look at "in store" cost if you want to charge the buyer the retail price, and look at "eBay cost" if you want to charge the buyer the exact postage cost that you will pay when you print your postage label.

Thank you this was helpfull. This is an example ...I had charged my buyer 1.87 for 5oz First class, not sure how I came up with that amount unless what you said.( I entered my own zip to calculate )
The actual was 2.79.
This listing was during my first week I’ve been learning thus far to use calculated shipping. thanks again.
In this case You chose first class letter when you set up shipping which was incorrect. You paid for the correct service-first class package.

Here's what the package type selection looks like, at the bottom of the shipping section in the sell your item form:
