I am pretty new to this whole process. I have been using calculated shipping for my packages. I noticed on a recent sale that the price of the shipping label was less than the buyer's shipping cost. Is it possible they are not getting Ebay discounted shipping?
I think I might be doing something wrong when I set up shipping. Do I have to go to the calculated shipping page and go from there or can I just select calculated shipping from where I set up the auction? I really don't want to charge the buyer more than is fair.

The shipping calculator in eBay listings defaults to show the retail rate, but you can change your site preferences so that buyers are charged the online rate. Here's the page where you start at "Offer carrier-specific discounts for buyers".
Many sellers choose to leave the calculator set up to retail, so that the postage difference is a built-in handling fee to cover expenses such as final value fees and packaging materials. IMHO this is a reasonable strategy; the retail rate is not "more than is fair."

It all depends on how you have it set up. Do you have retail rates chosen? If so, the buyer is charged the retail rate, and then when you buy a shipping label, you are charged the commercial rate.

The discount helps cover supplies used to ship the item, like a handing fee would. Looking at what you are charging for shipping, for example the coins, I would leave it as it is and take the discount.

So Ebay discounted shipping is not automatically applied to calculated shipping?

Where do I set it up? I was charged the Ebay rate. I think. but the customer was charged more.

As the seller, you choose the shipping rates the buyer pays. If you use calculated shipping, shipping is probably set to charge retail rates. Any discounts will go to you (after eBay takes out their fees).
Don't forget eBay will take Final Value fees and sponsored ad fees out of the shipping from what they give you. You may also have other shipping and handling costs you need to cover. If you pass along eBay shipping discounts, eBay will give you less money than the actual cost of shipping (eBay Fees taken from your shipping). If you want to pass along your eBay shipping discount or adjust shipping in other ways you can do it when setting shipping policies.

Ok. I'm going to look into this . I just assumed the ebay discounts were for the buyer too. Ty

Some sellers choose to pass on the discount. Just realize with eBay charging Final Value and Ad Fees on Shipping and State tax, the amount eBay gives you for shipping will be less than the actual cost of shipping (eBay takes their Final Value fees on Item+Shipping+State Tax before it goes to you; Ad Fees appear as a separate charge if used).

Ok thanks. I just didn't want to anything unfair.

YOu didn't do anything wrong. The discount should go to you to help pay for your shipping costs. You do know that you pay ebay at least 12.9% in fees on whatever the shipping rate is. The buyer sees the shipping rate before they bid. Any change leftover goes to you , the seller.

Thanks so much. 😁
Glad I was doing it right!

Thank you so much! I never knew this needed to be checked to give customers the discount. I could not figure out why shipping was coming up so much higher for buyers!
