Buyer requested shipping delay.

I requested that an item I bought be delayed in shipping out because I was on vacation. The seller claimed that eBay required shipping within 3 days, so shipped it out, rather than just holding it after a label was created, disregarding my request. I arrived home to a wet box and contents(rare piece of vintage electronics). Is this reasonable? I think negative feedback is in order.

Buyer requested shipping delay.

Seller has a responsibility to ship by the eBay ship date.

Buyer has a responsibility to put their mail on hold with the PO when they are on vacation.

Negative feedback is not warranted due to your purchasing when you knew you were not going to be home and for not filing a mail hold with your po.

Such arrangements "could" have been done before paying. Seller handling time starts when you pay.

Seems some arrangememt for deliveries should/could have been made before going on vacation.

You dont have a neighbor who could have picked up the pkg for you? Forget about negging this seller, he did what Ebay requires him to do..as others have said, you should have made this arrangement with the seller before you purchased the item.

I had just moved here and didn't know anyone well enough to ask, I don't even have any of their contact info. I was already gone when I purchased a hard to find item. Seller had already filed a non-payment when I tried to delay payment.

Well again, you should have asked the seller before you purchased about delayed payment..not after..jmho...he probably thought you were just another buyer who wasnt going to pay.,lots of those here.and if he has the auto npb option, it opened a case automatically.

You  and seller really  can't delay the payment  easy  anymore  like in the old days  . Unless seller is willing to do so.  Problem is ebay  hasn't cared to give a shipping hold request by buyer  on the item shipping page .  If it was me I would have had you pay ASAP   so I would not get Bugged by ebay to send payment reminder to buyer . I would have  delayed shipping  and called ebay to get the request on record   with them .

After some thought, I think the seller should have refunded me and cancelled the transaction, if he could not fulfill my request, thus avoiding the destruction of the item.

Yes, that would have been best for both of you. I don't know if the seller just didn't think about it, didn't know they could do it or perhaps just didn't want to do it.

As others have said, a seller is required to send out an item within their handling time.  Sellers are allowed to have a certain amount of late shipments but most are wary of waiting and then having to take a chance that they won't get too many late shipment dings.  I can understand why ebay has such regulations but they really do need to set something for up for when a customer requests a delay so that it is easy for a seller to do what the buyer has requested.

You were on vacation and knew you weren't going to be home.

You should have asked the seller BEFORE you purchased to change their handling time.

Seller MUST ship according to the listing.

If they shipped via UPS or Fed/Ex -- you can contact them and have them HOLD the delivery.  I do it all the time so I don't have to worry about a package shipping on my front steps.

You said an unpaid item case had been opened which means the seller wouldn't have been able to just cancel.  Along with that if you didn't ask to cancel just cancelling without you asking could get the seller a defect

  1. You could have waited to make the purchase.
  2. You could have messaged the seller to make delivery arrangements before the actual sale.
  3. You could have changed your delivery address before payment.
  4. You could have contacted the carrier and asked that they hold it at their facility so you could pick it up in person.
  5. You could have redirected the package to the address of a friend or relative.
  6. You could have provided a safe place for packages to be delivered in your absence. (I have a box with a lid on my porch.)

It just seems to me you have a lot of reasons why this is the seller's fault and a lot of excuses why it is not yours.
