Now I know that deliveries over $700 require a signature on delivery. Not to be too arcane BUT I have a buyer that bought 2 large and heavy items for a total of $750 ($375 each). They are too heavy to ship a a single package so they will go as 2 individual shipments each with a separate tracking number.
In that case does the Signature Required still apply? I intend to specify it as a requirement, but what if (most likely) the packages get separated in transit and the buyer doesn’t sign (because he only got a partial shipment). Will I still be covered if the tracking shows delivery - even on separate days?
(note - I could ship them together in a single package weighing prox 62 pounds and 102 united inches but I would rather not.)

Now is not the time to save 5 bucks.
If you shipped as 2 separate tracking #'s pay for signature confirmation for both of them.
Or, for 5 bucks, do you want to hear that one was received, and one was not thus negating the entire order?

Not so much that it is required, it's what covers your patootie.
I have shipped a number of items out over the years far less than the threshold still with SCD

I do intend to specify signature required on both shipments.

It's orders totaling $750+ (including shipping/tax).
You're going to purchase sig conf on the two smaller packages and your concern is what if the buyer doesn't sign if they're separated, correct?
What carrier are you using? If USPS they will hold the first package at buyer's request so the buyer (if they wanted) could wait for both packages to arrive at their PO and sign for both at once.
If you're using a different carrier, whether or not the buyer could ask the carrier to hold for pickup depends, in part, where you buy the label. Buying on eBay means those options through UPS/FedEx are disabled.
The other factor is if the buyer signs for one but the other gets lost, when they file a non-receipt claim they specify the quantity in the claim. They're not forced to file a claim for both chess sets.
If your concern is the buyer refuses delivery on one and the other is lost, the the buyer files a non-receipt claim for both, that is less likely to happen, unusual, and you may have to involve CS.
But if the buyer refuses delivery on one then it should get sent back to you, so there's that.
I kind of went all over the place with this - did I answer your questions and concerns somewhere in there?

I first check the buyer's feedbacks of course...does buyer look trustworthy.
Little or no feedbacks can be a scary buy and I do everything to protect the shipping.
I assume it is the USA and not 'freight forward' to Delaware, Florida, Oregon, etc.
So buyer feedbacks state eBay buyer ID is in USA?
Not trustworthy...2 different trackings with 2 different packages...and laws of nature where 2 different packages with 2 different tracking numbers won't get lost.
'Signature required' on both...absolutely...it's a big sale of $750.
Can you imagine a buyer trying to do a return on this?...LOL
It would be so funny to return 2 boxes instead of one...LOL
Play it safe.
Don't think about saving on shipping like some here who give advice.

Yep - you pretty much covered it. In the meantime this is the official answer I got from a direct email to eBay's help pages st the top of each page.
I understand you are asking whether signature confirmation is necessary for the two shipments you plan to send. This is an important question, and I'm glad you're seeking clarification. Since the order total exceeds $750, signature confirmation is required for all shipments associated with it. This ensures that high-value items are signed for upon delivery, rather than being left unattended.
This measure is the best way to protect you as a seller, should the buyer claim they did not receive either package.
